This chapter is a masterclass in pacing. Let me break down why it works so well. It starts IN MEDIA RES — already at the police station, already in conflict. No warm-up, no 'and then she went to the police station.' We drop right into the tension. That's smart. The author knows we've been waiting for this confrontation and doesn't waste a single word. The structure follows a clear escalation pattern: 1. Jiang Mingyue's calm statement of facts 2. Wen Dazhuang's desperate lies 3. Luo Mingzhong arrives and immediately sides against her 4. The slaps (the turning point) 5. Fan Xiaojun's entrance (the resolution) 6. The aftermath with Luo Mingzhong chasing after them Each beat raises the temperature. By the time Fan Xiaojun walks in, I was on the edge of my seat. And then the author gives us this beautiful button at the end — Luo Mingzhong deciding they WON'T divorce, while Wen Ning plots murder. Two threads of future conflict, both equally disturbing. What I loved most was how the author uses silence as a pacing tool. After Jiang Mingyue slaps Luo Mingzhong, there's this beat where 'everyone in the office was stunned.' That pause lets the weight of the moment land before the next wave of dialogue hits. The chapter ends on two parallel notes — Luo Mingzhong's delusional confidence and Wen Ning's cold calculation. Both are wrong about everything, and we KNOW it. That's what makes you want to keep reading. Not 'what happens next' but 'when will these people get what's coming to them.' One small critique: the transition from the police station to Fan Xiaojun driving her away felt slightly rushed. A beat of Jiang Mingyue processing what just happened would've given us more emotional breathing room. But honestly? The momentum was so good I didn't mind.
Let me just say this upfront: the stakes in these chapters are absolutely sky-high, and the author knows exactly how to keep you on the edge of your seat. But here's what's fascinating—the conflict isn't just external. It's not just about whether Shen Nanxing will survive the caning or whether Su Yunyan's pregnancy will cause complications. The real conflict is internal, and it's happening inside Jiang Jinshu's head. For most of the novel, her internal conflict was: how do I make him love me? Now it's: how do I destroy them without destroying myself? That's a completely different kind of stakes. The external conflict is equally intense. Shen Nanxing is facing physical punishment—fifty strokes that could leave him bedridden for half a month. But the social stakes are even higher. The entire nobility of Huangcheng is watching. If the Shen family can't handle their own household, what does that say about their ability to govern? Princess Yuanzhao puts it bluntly: "If Shenjia cannot handle this matter properly, I fear it will tarnish the family's reputation." And Lady Yongning threatens the nuclear option: "Let us hope Su Yunyan can still protect her child while in prison." The threat of imprisonment for a pregnant woman isn't just dramatic—it's a genuine escalation that raises the stakes to life-or-death. But what really keeps me up at night is the suspense around Jiang Jinshu's true intentions. The author drops this line right after the caning: "Shen Nanxing, this is only the beginning. The real show is yet to come." In this lifetime, I will make your Shenjia fall into eternal ruin. That's not the words of a woman seeking justice. That's the words of someone planning systematic destruction. And the most terrifying part? Shen Nanxing has no idea what's coming. He's lying on a stretcher, bleeding, thinking he's survived the worst of it. Meanwhile, Jiang Jinshu is calmly removing her hair ornaments and telling her maid to prepare a bath. The contrast between his physical suffering and her emotional composure is the source of all the tension. Will Su Yunyan try to use her pregnancy as a shield? Will Madam Shen finally see through her son's excuses? And most importantly—what does Jiang Jinshu's revenge look like when it's fully unleashed? The author has built a pressure cooker, and I have a feeling the explosion is going to be catastrophic.
Honestly, this is a case of trust the process. This book gets really good really fast, even if there isn't many chapters out now. If the author keeps writing, this book will be a staple to read!
I'm pretty shameless so~. Anyway, this is a practice short story for another larger novel I wanna write. I won't say much except that I'm quite confident I'll tickle your fancy if you love deep relationships. Not romance. Just very deep and touching. (And between girls haha). Just check it out!
I read all your books, a few chapters exactly. All of your books are slices of Life with a hint of drama (which doesn't have a vibe for me anyway) and actually, that kind of genre is not my cup of tea, to be honest. I'm waiting for something that will make me excited for reading them but there is nothing tho. But a few days ago I found this book and read a few chapters and found it a bit interesting in the beginning, so I kept reading it a few more, but over time I got bored so I stopped.Apart from the fact that the plot and conflict are the same as other common romances (that have stupid MC blah blah blah), your book is slow-burn too, so I'm tired of reading it.But I'll wait for your book with another genre btw!
this is Mpreg i hope you add the tag if i knew this I wouldn't bother to read it i just don't like this stuff
This novel is a masterpiece I have never read anything different like it. It's on a different level.♥️
Currently at chapter 53 where the first arc ended. It has some strong points and weak points, my problem sometimes is how the mc complains alot but I guess its the charm of this novel, some jokes are a bit overused sometimes but its been fun. What I find a little bit unnecessary is the romance, romance is not fit for this kind of style considering this is the first time the author is adding a mix of romance, but some key takeaways why I never dropped this is how quirky and funny characters like greta, the stranger, and vincent, I'll also add the king and his pets. Some characters are pretty unique on their own way. At the beginning it started slow but it gets to develop further on when he reached the capital.I just hope we can know more of his past because this shenanigans started quick on chapter 1.Overall, I'll give it a 4.6/5.
so for, I've found no faults in the bok. I really like how the author developed and introduces his main character. The background and word building is really good, I can see a future for this novel.
The writing styles is so gently and nice, its atmosphere and encourages patience as the story itself is a great reward for it.
Interesting so far. Waiting for the next chaps.?Hey, it may sound rude but do check my book. I would be happy if you could provide some feedback.✨?
