The pacing in these chapters is absolutely ruthless and I am here for it. Let me break down why this works so well. Chapter 11 opens with a completely unrelated scene — Xie Yanqing calling Shen Zhenghao about investment issues. It's a brief moment that establishes the external world outside the main romance, then we cut to Jiaojiao at the bar. The transition is clean and the shift in tone is immediate. We go from cold business calls to warm ambient lighting and whiskey shots. That contrast is intentional and effective. The bar scene itself is structured like a slow burn that suddenly becomes a bonfire. Truth or Dare starts casual — boring questions about favorite food. Then it escalates: the 'gentle and cute' comment, the diamond ring flash that makes Wen Shanyi's expression turn cold, the dare that pairs them for a kiss. Each beat builds on the last, and by the time they're alone in the elevator, the reader is already leaning forward. Chapter 12 is essentially one long scene — the car ride home — but the author never lets it drag. There are micro-tensions throughout: her faking drunkenness, his internal monologue about being patient, the moment she mistakes him for Xie Yanqing. The chapter ends on the kiss, which is both a climax and a setup for the next chapter's disaster. Chapter 13 opens with sunlight and beige curtains — a stark visual contrast to the dark bar and car — and immediately drops the emotional bomb. The system's dialogue at the end ('what you did is called marital xx') is a perfect comedic beat that undercuts the romantic tension just enough to keep the story from becoming too heavy. The pacing never lets you breathe, but it also never feels rushed. Every scene has a purpose.
'Even though we agreed to pretend not to know each other in public, we are still old classmates. Aren't you being a little too distant?' — Lu Zheng, being playful for the first time ever and I am NOT ready. This man doesn't joke. He doesn't tease. And yet here he is, using a question to close the distance between them while everyone else is watching the stage. The dialogue in this chapter is absolutely loaded. Every conversation between Wen Qingli and Lu Zheng has at least three layers: what they're saying, what they mean, and what they're afraid to say. When he asks 'are you starting to get used to it?' and she says 'It's fine,' that 'fine' is doing so much work. She's not fine. She's absolutely not fine. But she says it with a 'gentle, composed expression' because that's who she is. And Lu Zheng—he's the same. 'Rest assured, Teacher Wen. I will keep to the agreement we made before we got married.' He says it calmly, but the fact that he feels the need to reassure her tells you everything. They're both performing composure while their hearts are racing. The dialogue also reveals so much about their past. 'Were you closer with Fu Wenzhou then?' 'I wasn't close to him either—not as close as you were with Bai Chuxue.' This is the kind of dialogue where the characters are testing each other, probing for information, and trying to figure out where they stand. The author writes dialogue like a knife—precise, sharp, and always cutting to the truth. And the side characters? Mingtang's lines are natural and fun, giving us relief between the heavy moments. 'I wonder if he's been smoking too much'—such a casual, real observation after a live performance. It grounds the scene and makes the world feel alive.
Let me get philosophical for a second. This book is ostensibly about two women who transmigrated into a terrible romance novel and are trying to survive, but underneath that premise there's something really interesting happening. The original owners of these bodies were destroyed by their obsession with the male lead — one became a director to prop him up, the other became an actress playing villains just to be near him. They gave up everything: their careers, their dignity, their sanity, their lives. And for what? So the male and female leads could live happily ever after on a pile of their corpses. Meng Tang's response to this is basically: no thank you. She's not trying to win the male lead's affection or fight the plot. She's exploiting the system. The antagonist husband is a walking wallet, so she's going to treat him like one. The original novel's moral framework — that women should sacrifice everything for love — is something she flat-out rejects. Her life principles are money and beauty, and she's not apologizing for either. The secret code words themselves are symbolic. "Heaven covers the tiger. I am your old mother." It's nonsense on the surface, but it represents something profound: these women have created their own language, their own rules, their own world within the world of the novel. They're not playing by the author's script. They're writing their own. And the bath center — this sterile, luxurious, soundproofed space where they can finally be themselves — it's almost a metaphor for the novel itself. A constructed world where the rules are different, where two women who were supposed to be enemies can find each other and survive. The original novel wanted them dead. These two are still here, spending a million yuan on massages and planning their next night out. That's not just plot — that's a statement.

This story hits all the best points! I generally HATE romance plots but the twist on this one is absolutely brilliant so far and not forced in the least. The mc is op without being overly arrogant or stupid af (so far). The story sucks you in right from the first paragraph and never lets go. The writing is fluid and engaging, full of comic relief without getting dopey. Looking forward to more chapters. The world building was detailed and graphic without getting boring or repetitive. I’m in love so far ?. Keep up the great work!
was wandering if I can find a Husband here too
A very nice plot, and the character design is also good, but the author needs to improve his updating stability
As you can see by the amount of votes i was a fan of this novel unfortunately the author is dishonest about the content of the novel, he is shackled by the same cliche and disgusting incel behavior thay majority of authors on webnovel suffer. There would be absolutely no freaking problem if he said in either the tags or comments what the story would be.But he lied and made it seem like it’s a revenge story with a puppet king who takes back his rightful throne.Which didn’t happen the mc is a pathetic little twirp who feels guilty for the girls who betrayed him and wants to help and save them.
