Okay so let me just say this—the city gate scene in Chapter 2 is one of those moments where the entire plot pivots on something that could've been handled a dozen different ways, and the author chose the most interesting one possible. Xu Shuyao is stranded in the rain, regretting not asking for help, and then—bam—Xiao Mo (who she doesn't even know the name of yet) quietly tells a guard she's his cousin and saves her. No grand speech, no dramatic confrontation. Just a cold man in black riding through a storm to do a silent favor. That's the kind of plot move that makes you sit up straight. And the setup leading to it? Brilliant. Chapter 1 establishes that she deliberately chose to trail Wang Shaowei's party for safety but then refuses to acknowledge them when they arrive at the gate because she doesn't want to seem like a clingy relative. The irony is almost painful—she avoided drawing attention, and that's exactly why she ends up stranded. Meanwhile, Wang Shaowei is in his carriage flipping through an erotic picture book with his cousin Xiao Mo, completely oblivious to the fact that the girl he could've helped is shivering three carriages behind him. The author also plants this really smart detail: Xu Shuyao's father is dead, her mother died when she was eight, and the main branch of the Xu family is already scheming to swallow their inheritance and marry her off to some nephew. The plot isn't just about surviving the journey—it's about a fourteen-year-old girl navigating a world that wants to consume her. And she's doing it with nothing but her wits and a seventy-year-old nanny. The stakes are established early and they never let up.
story is quite impressive and different but some subplots are quite cliche but it is interesting to read and entertaining let's see how it develops in the future
