Captain Su Han. Cold exterior, warm heart apparently, but mostly just COLD exterior at this point and I love it. The man has this permanent scowl that makes him look like someone owes him money and honestly? Same energy. But here's the thing that has me absolutely losing it — he keeps SECRETLY scanning Wen Lan with his psychic ability. Like multiple times in these chapters. First when they're loading equipment, then again in the truck, and he notices her magnetic field has GROWN STRONGER in just half a day. His internal reaction? "A trace of surprise flashed across his usually calm eyes. The surprise vanished as quickly as it appeared." This man is a whole mystery novel in human form. Why is he scanning her? Is he suspicious? Protective? Both? And the wildest part — Wen Lan can FEEL him doing it. She has enhanced perception and she literally senses his psychic sweep. Their eyes never meet but they both KNOW something is happening between them that nobody else understands. Meanwhile Wen Che is out here casually revealing that Su Han once had a girlfriend (or at least someone he secretly liked — he bought a necklace on Valentine's Day!!) and Wen Lan is just sitting there like "oh interesting, the scary telepath man has a type." I need to know what Su Han is thinking. I need it now.
I need to talk about how the author pivots here because it's wild. We start with Hehua and Niu Niu discussing energy systems, strength pills, and hibernation modes. It's light, almost game-like. Niu Niu is being sarcastic about ginseng growing 'like radishes.' There's a comedic beat. Then—bam. Meng Chunxing asks if her daughter is feeling okay after the river incident. And suddenly we're in deeply personal mother-daughter territory. The mom says 'Call me selfish. Call me lacking in revolutionary spirit. I just don't want my daughter dying to save someone else.' And then the chapter shifts again. Breakfast. The egg scene. Then Hehua wanders to the ditch. The pacing here is almost predatory. It lulls you with warmth and family moments and then drops you into one of the most disturbing scenes in the entire novel. There's no warning. You're reading about a toddler dividing an egg and the next thing you know, children are dunking another child in water. The author doesn't slow down to let you process. Hehua arrives, sees the scene, and acts. No long internal debate. Just 'her scalp tingled with horror' and she's already running. That's effective pacing. It doesn't give the reader a moment to breathe before the stakes become terrifyingly real.
This section moves at a pace that's absolutely addictive. Let me break down why it works so well. The chapter opens with the aftermath of the credit theft — we're already past the inciting incident, which means the author isn't wasting time showing us the betrayal itself. We get the consequences, the dean's conversation, Sheng Qianyu's decision to transfer, and then immediately we're into the Zhao family drama. There's no lingering, no filler. Every scene pushes the story forward. The transition from the research institute to the fighter jet institute is handled in just a few paragraphs. 'Before entering the fighter jet research institute, Sheng Qianyu had actually relied on Chen Zhou's connections to investigate the entire institute.' Boom. Done. We don't need a chapter about her job hunt. The author trusts us to fill in the gaps. But then — and this is where the pacing really shines — after all the tension of the Zhao family confrontation, the narrative drops us into a historical time jump: 'In 1967, the situation grew even more tense. Starting in 1968, large-scale mobilization...' This gives the story breathing room while also raising the stakes. The personal drama is now set against a backdrop of national upheaval. And then the Chen Zhou phone call. After all that tension, we get this quiet moment where he's literally waiting by the phone, swapping training rooms, counting seconds. 'In just three seconds, Sheng Qianyu heard Chen Zhou's voice.' The pacing here slows down beautifully. It's a breath after the storm, and it makes the romance feel earned rather than rushed.
Let me paint you a picture because the atmosphere in these chapters is absolutely dripping with visual storytelling. The individual showcase segment—Wen Jiuyi on stage, clean sharp movements, hitting every beat, that large-frame dance style creating this visually stunning impact. The audience ERUPTS. Even Yin Yue, who apparently wears a permanent cold expression, moves slightly and claps. You can feel the electricity in that room. Then the cameras pivot, the mood shifts, and suddenly we're in this suffocating backstage world where everyone is sidestepping Gu Nanci like he's radioactive. The contrast is brutal. On stage: thunderous applause, bright lights, the glamour of performance. Off stage: contestants holding their breath, walking on eggshells, afraid of being assigned as supporting roles to the "prince" during group evaluations. The studio itself becomes a character. It's this arena of judgment where your worth is measured in screen time and elimination risk. And then there's that final image—Gu Nanci walking out of the studio, stopping to be intercepted by a middle-aged man calling him "Little Ci," trying to negotiate while clearly suppressing anger. Gu Nanci's response: "Busy sleeping, no time, next time." Three words. Three rejections. And he doesn't even lift an eyelid. The man is left standing there, and Wen Jiuyi and Cheng Yang watch from a distance, both thinking the exact same thing about this guy's mental fortitude. The scene then cuts to the fortieth floor of the h-dik building, where department heads sit around a conference table with grim expressions. Bright lights above, darkness below. The world of this novel isn't just a survival show—it's a vertical hierarchy where the people at the top decide who gets to shine and who gets sacrificed, and the cameras capture every second of it.

Definitely rating this book a 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‼️ It’s captivating and just by reading a few chapters it already started the drama, the revenge and the sex on the beach?? The flow of the story is pretty smooth too. I can’t wait for more chapters and see how the story will progress.
Not bad, not good, not bad, I kind of liked it??
He is one heck of a overthinkning bastard. Gotta hand it to the author reallu, i am pretty sure you could write an entire chapter with just his thoughts.
