Can we talk about how the villagers just... say everything? Right in front of her? Like she's invisible? "That girl is a jinx, she lost her parents at a young age." "She's already twenty and still unmarried." "Who's going to arrange these things for her?" "That Feng Xingmei is really something! Occupying her niece's house, making the girl work like a beast of burden..." They're sitting on stone stools cracking melon seeds and discussing her life like she's not ten feet away. And the worst part? She hears every word. She opens her mouth but no words come out. She just... scurries away like a drenched dog with its tail between its legs. This is such brilliant characterization through dialogue. The villagers aren't even malicious—they're just casually cruel, the way small communities can be when they've decided someone is less than human. Their dialogue feels so natural, so authentically gossipy, that it hurts to read. Compare that to Lin Defei's dialogue: "Qiao'er is back. Come, eat quickly." "Eat more. Remember to ask the village head for it tomorrow. It's your hard-earned money." On the surface, this is warm. It's what a good uncle would say. But after what we learn later, every kind word becomes a weapon. The author is showing us that in this world, cruelty doesn't always come with a snarl—sometimes it comes with a smile and a bowl of pickled vegetables. And Suisui's dialogue! "Mommy, Suisui wants to eat meat." "It makes baby so angry!" The contrast between the childish, adorable voice and the devastating content is unforgettable.
Okay I need to talk about Duan Yuyan because HOLY. Like, Song Yuejiao had been through SO MUCH in this chapter and then this girl just... appears and is genuinely kind to her? It hit different. There's this scene where they're walking through the garden and Duan Yuyan just takes her hand and says let's explore together, and Song Yuejiao is literally shaking with how nice it feels. The system even flags it like "Is your relationship progressing too quickly?" and Song Yuejiao's response is basically "I feel so relaxed chatting with her!" — and I felt that. I actually felt that in my chest. But then it gets complicated, right? Because Lin Miyu shows up and accuses Song Yuejiao of everything, and Duan Yuyan immediately defends her. "I believe Yuejiao isn't that kind of person." Like, that's the moment where I was fully invested in this friendship. And then the system goes "You seem to be deceived, too" and I was like WAIT WHAT. Because now I'm sitting here wondering — is Duan Yuyan actually genuine or is she playing a longer game? The text gives us these breadcrumbs: her mother died young, her father has a concubine as legal wife, she was raised by her grandmother. She's vulnerable in her own way. That makes her either more sympathetic or more dangerous, I can't tell yet. And Song Yuejiao's relationship with Qiao Shuang is also really touching in a quiet way. When Qiao Shuang holds her hand and Song Yuejiao feels it trembling — that's such a small detail but it shows how much they both care. Qiao Shuang telling her "don't go when Mother calls you, fight back" is basically the emotional core of everything. It's not dramatic or flashy, it's just someone saying I've got your back. The Lin Miyu and Li Jinzhi dynamic is... not great. Li Jinzhi manipulating Lin Miyu while feeling a pang of guilt but NOT regretting it? That's some villain energy and I hate it for her. But also, the text says Li Jinzhi felt guilt for the first time, which means she's not completely irredeemable. I'm already confused about who to root for.
There's this one line that won't leave my head. Banxia puts her hands on her hips and tells her grandmother: "Even as a woman, one can become a heroine, can hold up her own piece of the sky." Her own piece of the sky. Not all of it. Not trying to replace anyone. Just her portion. That's the whole thesis of this story right there, isn't it? And look at what she's holding in her other hand—literally. Fabric. Bolts of cloth that she bought and distributed to every member of her family. Each piece has a specific recipient: Uncle, Auntie, Eldest Cousin, Fugen, Chunlan, Grandma, Little Uncle. The navy blue one is special—it's for Little Uncle. This isn't just generosity. It's her weaving herself back into the family structure on her own terms. She's not the daughter who attempted suicide and disappeared into mystery. She's the granddaughter who brings gifts and remembers everyone's preferences. The fabric becomes this quiet symbol of restoration. She's stitching the family back together, thread by thread, color by color. Then there's the acupuncture needles. The Ghost Realm Thirteen Needles that Zhao Boxian warns her about. The Taiyi Thirteen Needles that she possesses—the orthodox lineage, the original source. There's something deeply symbolic about needles here. They're tiny, almost invisible, but they can heal or harm. They pierce the surface to reach what's underneath. That's exactly what Banxia is doing in this story—piercing through appearances, through the village's assumptions about her, through the limitations placed on women. And the space inside her soul—"an independent Space resides within my soul; no one can take it away." That's not just a plot device. It's the ultimate symbol of self-possession. In a world where women's fates are negotiated through marriage proposals and family arrangements, she carries an entire universe inside herself that no one can access without her permission. The grandfather's ghost also lingers throughout. His words about her being capable if she'd been born a boy haunt the family conversations even though he's dead. But Banxia is proving him right on her own terms—not by becoming a man, but by being a woman who holds up her piece of the sky.

This book is an absolute banger of a story—packed with mystery, drama, and a main character who refuses to back down. Kaesu starts off sweet and innocent, but life throws her into the deep end, and she’s got no choice but to toughen up. The plot’s got twists, the stakes are wild, and the writing keeps you locked in from page one. The best part? The mix of action and deep emotions hits hard, making Kaesu’s journey feel real. The pacing is fast and keeps you on your toes, though sometimes it moves so quick that certain emotional moments don’t get enough time to sink in. A few side characters could’ve used more spotlight, but overall, it doesn’t take away from the thrill. If you’re into badass protagonists, revenge stories, and a mystery that keeps you guessing, this book is 100% worth the read. I FINISHED IT IN JUST ONE SITTING! SUPER WORTH IT!
Your way of explaining all the caliber and scenarios are amazing. The character seems to be overpowered, if you could fix that then it's great
love the story and plot so farreally intrigued with MC's development, hoping not to be too OP later xD
