This chapter is haunted by the symbol of the knife's edge. Ji Zhaohé feels she is 'walking on a knife's edge every moment,' and this isn't just metaphor—it's the central condition of her existence. She is noble, yes, but her nobility is a prison. Every move is observed by the Empress, the Crown Princess, the Imperial Consort, secret inspectors. Even the person sharing her bed is 'little more than a stranger she had known for only a few days.' The plague itself functions as a powerful symbol. It spreads indiscriminately—through class, through gender, through status. Ji Zhaohé could catch it just like anyone else. Her noble title offers no real protection. In this matriarchal world she once longed for, she discovers that power is an illusion when biology doesn't care about your rank. The young man who grabs her hand and pulls it into his robe is another loaded symbol. He represents desire, desperation, the temptation to take what you want in a world where women hold power. But Ji Zhaohé pulls back. Not because she doesn't want to—she admits she was tempted—but because she understands that survival requires discipline. 'One crybaby is enough,' she thinks. Her energy must be focused on Shen Qingtang, on protecting her own life. The acupuncture needles are perhaps the most precise symbol in the chapter. They pierce the surface to reach the deeper currents—both in the body and in the relationship. When Shen Qingtang says 'It hurts' and she calls him a liar, they're not just talking about physical pain. They're negotiating truth, trust, the space between what is felt and what is spoken. And then there's the medicine itself—bitter, cold, glimmering under moonlight. Ji Zhaohé throws her head back and drinks it in one gulp. The bitterness shoots to her throat, making her nauseous. But she drinks it anyway. This is her life: swallowing what is bitter because there is no alternative.
I have to be honest—the scene at the Lu residence is intense, but it's the ending that keeps me up at night. Xu Nianchu gets back in that jeep, falls asleep, wakes up near her house, and tells Lu Beichen to just drive away. She's nervous. She's rubbing her palm. And then the door opens and her father is already waiting. The stakes here are SO high and the author makes it clear without being heavy-handed. This isn't just a family disagreement—her father tried to sell her to a man in his fortiors as a mistress the day before. He's actively trying to force her into a sexual arrangement with her boss. And when she refuses, he threatens to scream that SHE assaulted HIM. Who does that? What kind of person— I'm still processing. But here's what makes the tension work so well: Xu Nianchu doesn't panic. She's scared, yes, but she's also calculating. She watches her father's reaction when she mentions they don't look related. She's testing him. She's gathering information. Even in the most vulnerable moment of her week, she's still playing chess instead of checkers. And the slap on Xu Xunle? That's not just revenge—that's strategic. She's exposing the stepsister's weakness while simultaneously revealing to her father that he might not even be her biological parent. Two birds, one stone, maximum damage. The stakes just keeps rising and rising and I am NOT ready for what happens next.
Read em... and all I can say is ABSOLUTE CINEMA.Fresh and new..something outside our usual reading thing ???
interesting premises, but... background building is a bit lacking, MC feels soulless although, its only 33 chapter, soo maybe I'll update the rating laterone question tho... apakah MC nya korban efisiensi anggaran?

This is a really interesting story and the writing quality is top notch. I look forward to reading more❤️
Loved the first chapters nicely written. Definitely an intriguing story, the plot is interesting and the way it’s described is pretty simple and easy to understand and doesn’t rushed up. Love the setting and composure of the writer. I highly recommend it.
This novel has a truely stupidly awful Mc. He acts like a spoiled 2 year old the entire time and hates all the kids his age for daring to invite him to do stuff with them. That in and of itself is kinda dumb but he spends the whole time like "I wanna be more social"? Dafuq is his plan here if anytime anyone tried to talk to them he just berates them until they leave him alone. It's just so colossally dumb.
It's a good example of how to develop a system novel. The writer did a good job with opening and throughing the mc right into the action but also adding meaning to it. The way the world was explained was logical and made sense, and it wasn't overwhelming it was simple and to the point. Great story overall and ill be adding it to my library's
