The dialogue in this book is genuinely delightful, especially coming from a three-and-a-half-year-old protagonist. Wanwan's lines are short, simple, and full of childlike logic that somehow carries more weight than any adult's speech. When she says "Sister is a bad girl!" after Tong Qianqian threatens her, it's devastating because it's so honest and unfiltered. When she tells her mom "the bugs on Grandpa won't bite us," it's both adorable and deeply unsettling because we know those bugs are absolutely going to bite—just not physically. And the way she eats at that restaurant, with her mouth full saying "so tasty and soft, very yummy!"—you can literally hear a three-year-old's voice in those words. The adults' dialogue is also well-differentiated. Tong Qianqian's threats are sharp and manipulative. Zhang Nan's scolding is worried and practical. The Old Madam switches between Cantonese and accented Mandarin, which feels authentic. Even the Western man's broken Chinese—"Delicious? Good?"—has a distinct rhythm. The narrative voice itself is warm and slightly wry, never taking itself too seriously but always knowing when to land an emotional beat. I especially love how the author uses dialogue to create dramatic irony. Wanwan says things that sound innocent to the other characters but are completely loaded for the reader. It's a skillful use of voice that makes every conversation feel layered.
The rooftop confrontation with Brick is interesting because on paper it shouldn't be a conflict at all. Lu Qing is clearly stronger — he's 'on the verge of evolving into a Bloodline Viscount,' hunting Blood Thralls, collecting evolution points. Brick is a 'little wolf cub' at the peak of his developmental stage, which basically means he's a teenager with delusions of grandeur. And yet the author makes you care about Brick anyway. Why? Because Brick's motivation is pure and understandable. He's jealous, protective, and completely outmatched. 'Stay away from Su Lingwei, or I'll tear you apart!' — this is a kid throwing a tantrum with fangs. Lu Qing senses this too: 'he didn't harbor any real murderous intent. He just wanted to fight him.' So he holds back. The stakes here aren't about who wins the fight — we know Lu Qing wins. The stakes are about what happens AFTER. Brick is growing stronger every day, and the text explicitly notes that werewolves become 'overwhelming' once their full powers awaken, especially against vampires. So this isn't a resolved conflict. It's a timer. The little wolf cub is going to grow up, and when he does, the next encounter won't end with a punch and a walk away. Meanwhile, Lu Qing's own progress is slowing down because the Lesembach Bloodline's Blood Thralls have become harder to track. Two separate power trajectories moving in different directions, and the reader knows something's building even if the characters don't yet.
Okay, I need to talk about Lin Xiazhi because this character is absolutely unhinged in the best way possible. Like, she goes from being this quiet girl who got beaten to selling her own mother to being this cold-blooded killer who snaps chicken necks and performs surgery in the dark. The transformation is insane. But here's what got me—the way she treats Lin Qingbei. The kid is seven but looks five, right? And when he comes out with that worn bundle saying it has their spare clothes, she doesn't mock him or get mad. She just... rubs his head. That small moment tells you everything about who she is underneath all that violence. She's protecting these two people who have nothing left, and she's willing to become a monster to do it. Then there's Shen Ying. The mother who was so broken she couldn't even speak when she woke up. The fact that Lin Xiazhi gives her painkillers and antibiotics—modern medicine in a historical setting—shows how much she's adapted. She's not just surviving, she's upgrading. And Lin Dagou? Oh man. The guy thinks he can sell his own family and then offers Lin Xiazhi ten taels of silver to help. The audacity. When she breaks every bone in his body one by one while asking 'Will you sign?' each time... I was literally screaming at my phone. The power dynamic shift is so satisfying.

The book so far it was good. With some missing parts that made me a bit confused, but the characters are well done and it has some funny moments. I hope that in future chapters the story to bring light in my confusion. I do recommend to read it if you are into these kind of novels.
