Okay so can we talk about how brilliantly this Gu poison is being used as a plot engine? Like, it's not just some random affliction — it's literally forcing these two characters into escalating physical proximity, and the author has been tracking it so carefully. Five steps, then three, then one, and Lian Qiao literally does the math at the end and realizes the next stage means NEGATIVE distance. She dug her own grave, haha. But what I love is how the plot weaves in other threads simultaneously. The cat-raising notebook! That's such a small detail but it does SO much work — it hints that Lu Wujiu has a secret soft side, that he's planning to raise a cat, and it gives Lian Qiao actual ammunition for future arguments with Taotie. It's the kind of detail that makes you want to go back and re-read earlier chapters to catch everything you missed. And the sparring scene? The plot pivot from Lian Qiao trying to use sparring as a cover to stay close, to literally getting pinned on the bed, to the poison suddenly being relieved at the two-hour mark — it's a perfect mini-arc within the chapter. The author sets up the sparring idea, Lian Qiao feels proud of herself for being clever, and then Lu Wujiu just... presses her down. The subversion is hilarious and the pacing is immaculate. Also the Hundred-Demon Sight backstory flashback was a nice touch — it explains her ability while also giving us worldbuilding about the demon realm infiltrating cultivation sects. The Compound-Eye Mantis incident at the banquet is genuinely funny and adds depth to why her father downplayed her gift. It all feels organic to the plot rather than info-dumped.
I need to talk about the dialogue in these chapters because the author has crafted something genuinely special here. Every character has a voice so distinct you could identify them blind. Shen Simo's voice is razor-sharp and defensive. Listen to how she handles President Wang: "Spending a fortune to win a beauty's smile—isn't that a bargain?" She's performing, calculating, but there's this underlying exhaustion in every line. And then with Lu HuaiChuan—"Can't we just stay alive and intact? I still need my face and figure to make a living." That's Shen Simo in a nutshell: pragmatic, self-aware, and somehow still endearing. Lu HuaiChuan's dialogue is where the author really shines. The man speaks in layers. "Of course, if you'd prefer we go out together, I'd be happy to oblige. Just kidding, haha!" He's teasing, testing, always leaving an exit ramp. And then: "I meant your hair. It smells sweet." The pivot from egg tart to her scent is so smooth it's almost predatory, but in a way that makes you root for him. The most striking exchange has to be the wheelchair joke. He says he was just trying to lighten the mood, and she's furious. His response? "Adorable." He sees through her anger completely. That's the voice of a man who has studied her like a text he can't stop reading. And Li Xue! "Holy shit, how much is that?" "Over 60,000? My bank has a daily limit of 20,000—he just sent you more than 60,000 in one go? Accept it!" She's the id to Shen Simo's superego, and her voice is pure chaos in the best way. The author's narrative voice itself is worth noting—it's warm without being saccharine, sharp without being cruel. It matches the tone of the romance perfectly.
I've been thinking about this book's use of food as a recurring motif, and it's actually deeper than I expected. Crawfish isn't just a snack — it's a symbol of Xie Junyi's devotion and his powerlessness. He can cook, he can peel, he can feed, but he cannot make Chi Anyu look at him differently. The crawfish is both an offering and a reminder that his role is service. When Chi Anyu says 'I want spicy crawfish' and then changes to 'garlic crawfish instead' because of his condition, Xie Junyi adapts instantly. That's the tragedy and the beauty of their dynamic. Then there's the wine. Qi You sending a picture of premium wine from the family cellar with the message 'I'll take you there later, and we'll drink it in secret together' — this is about trust and conspiracy. The wine represents a private world between Chi Anyu and Qi You, separate from the family politics. Even the ointment becomes symbolic. What starts as a comedic misunderstanding transforms into Xie Junyi's private knowledge of Chi Anyu's body — something intimate that Chi Anyu doesn't even realize has been shared. The physical marks on Chi Anyu's body become a map of Xie Junyi's desire, whether Chi Anyu wants that knowledge or not. Food, drink, medicine — everything in this book carries weight.
"The Chronicle of the Beginning and Climax" takes the reader-in-a-novel genre to a whole new level. It’s not just about an overpowered protagonist leveling up—it’s about facing the very nature of stories, fate, and reality itself. The idea of the Reader of the Beginning vs. the Reader of the Climax adds a tragic, inevitable cycle that hooks readers emotionally. The recent introduction of The Variable changes everything, giving Jihwan a choice no protagonist has ever had before. The writing is sharp, immersive, and engaging. The pacing is perfect, with each chapter ending on a gripping hook that keeps readers wanting more. The descriptions of reality breaking, the mysterious presence of the Variable, and the weight of Jihwan’s choices are written with just the right balance of mystery and clarity. There’s a strong novelistic style that makes it feel like a premium Webnovel rather than just another system story.Yoo Jihwan – A protagonist who thinks before he acts, questions everything, and refuses to be just a pawn in the system. His intelligence and cautious nature make him stand out from the usual reckless MCs.Sohyun – More than just a side character, she is the emotional anchor of the story. She provides a contrast to Jihwan’s rationality, making their interactions meaningful. Her role as the Reader of the Middle hints at an even bigger story to come. The Variable – One of the most intriguing mysteries introduced so far. It’s a force beyond the system, making it completely unpredictable. Its offer to Jihwan—"Do you wish to control the story?"—is a game-changer.The system rules, the curse of the Climax, the hidden nature of the world, and the existence of higher beings like the Variable make this one of the most unique and well-developed worlds in the Webnovel scene. The way reality itself is a structured narrative but can be questioned and rewritten? Absolutely brilliant.Every chapter delivers something unexpected. The mystery keeps deepening, making it impossible to drop. The latest events—where Jihwan is given the choice to become a "Writer" instead of a "Reader"—set this story apart from anything else in the genre.

Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
