This book is doing something really interesting with the 'True and False Young Lady' genre that I think deserves more attention. On the surface, it's following all the familiar beats—the switched-at-birth trope, the noble princess mother, the suffering commoner girl who turns out to be the real heir. But the twist is that the narrator knows this is a STORY within the story, and she's read the original novel. Song Yanyan isn't just living this life—she's aware that her world operates on narrative logic, and that awareness is both her curse and her weapon. The symbolism of the snow is layered beyond just atmosphere. Snow covers everything in white purity, making the ugly truth invisible. Luo Jinyu arrives wrapped in the same imagery—unconscious, beautiful, pitiable—just like snow looks innocent until you realize how cold and deadly it is. The 'goose-feather flakes' description is almost too pretty, which makes it unsettling. Then there's the motif of voices and silence. Song Yanyan can hear everything for three days—her family arguing, Luo Jinyu performing—but she cannot make a sound. The invisible force restraining her soul is almost a metaphor for how women in these stories are often silenced, how the 'true young lady' gets to tell her version of events while the people who actually cared for her are erased. Luo Jinyu remembers only the chores, only the hardship, deliberately forgetting who fed her and clothed her. That selective memory is its own kind of violence. The egg in the porridge is another small symbol—the family's most precious resource given freely to their daughter, while Luo Jinyu watches from the side, already calculating how to use their kindness against them.
I need to talk about the purification scene because honestly it's one of the most vividly described sequences I've encountered. Let me just paint it for you: it's the fifth watch of the night — so we're talking pre-dawn, deepest cold of winter — and Grandma Su wakes up because something smells absolutely horrific. The text says it's worse than months-old manure in the outhouse, and I believe it. She fumbles for the kerosene lamp, Su Youtian half-dresses, and then they see their granddaughter covered head to toe in this black mud-like substance. The sensory detail here is INSANE. I could literally smell that room. But then — and this is where it gets gorgeous — after five trips to the bathtub, Su Jiu emerges clean and her skin is described as white as a steamed bun, fair with a rosy tint, lovely as jade and snow. Mrs. Zhang's reaction of just staring in a daze, completely captivated, made me smile. The contrast between the grotesque and the beautiful is really well handled. And the winter setting keeps coming back — the cold water, the kerosene lamp, the thermos keeping goat milk warm. The rural village life feels lived-in. You can picture the kang, the courtyard, the wooden plank stretcher. The Immortal Abode Space is mentioned briefly but it's clear this is a cultivation world layered on top of a very grounded, very poor rural setting. The spiritual Qi growing denser in her space while the outside world remains scarce is a nice touch — it creates this private sanctuary that contrasts with the harshness of the village. I also loved the detail about the sweet potato vines being fed to sheep and the stems being stir-fried. These small domestic details make the world feel real.
I keep thinking about the shrike and its 'thorny dining table.' This bird impales its prey on thorns and tears the meat apart—it's called a butcher bird for a reason. And then this woman sharpens a hairpin to use as a weapon, trying to 'skewer' Hu Xiuchun. The parallel is too perfect to ignore. The hairpin itself is such a loaded object. It's something a woman would wear to keep her hair neat—Zhou's mother had taken time to fix her hair after losing her older son, maintaining composure. But after losing her younger son too, that same grooming ritual couldn't hold. The hairpin goes from accessory to weapon. Beauty to violence. Order to chaos. And Su Zhisheng, who understands the shrike's language and feeds it beef jerky— he's the only character who seems to exist outside this cycle of thorns and skewering. He warns the police, saves his enemy, and then befriends a bird. His moral clarity stands in stark contrast to everyone else's corruption. The fake young master's engagement banquet is another symbol—this performative celebration built on plastic surgery loans and deception. A wedding meant to unite two families is actually a cover for Hu Xiuchun's scams. The 'happy occasion' is rotten to its core. "If any bird tries to peck you, I'll turn them into skewers!" The shrike says this protectively, but it's also describing exactly what it does to its prey. Protection and violence are the same thing in this world.

superb writing, complexity in so many areas. There are diverse perspectives, generational, cultural, and the first person thinking of the protagonist all makes sense and brings the reader closer.
The first 25 chapters was amazing then it became trash. don't waste your time on this nonsense.
Here is my review of this book, The Hidden Mysteries:World Building: So far the world building is alright for now, especially with the dark realm. I like in each chapter, the author expands more of what inside the dark dimension and gives more surprises. For the feedback on this, perhaps you can expand more on what inside the dark world or realm and giving more a detail description on its inside.Characters: Seven for me is quite a determined character as he is eager to get out from the dark realm. I also like the author tries to flesh him out as his relationship with his sister has even become one of his motivational drives to escape the dark realm. However, I do love the author to expand more on his character as the story goes on especially on his reaction the further he is inside the realmPacing: The pacing of the plot so far is alright, it's not slow, but not fast too. It is quite easy to follow for me. Overall, I recommended this book for those who like adventure book. Good job author and thank you.
Overall score of 0.6, mainly because the story is clearly AI writing. There are several times in the beginning chapters that are sectioned off by titles as if given a prompt and told to go with it and the author just copied and pasted the chapter without taking out the sub-headers meant to address user-entered prompt for topics intended to be entered into the chapter. There are several times the writing loops back to an already mentioned section or characters repeating themselves or others like other AI-written stories tend to do, especially when it comes to exposition to explain certain reasoning or for why the Main Character is doing something as if the AI is for exposition prompted. At some point the author leaves in bullet points. If you're Interested in AI-written stories that are rushed and pushed out as quickly as this, enjoy. I just wished there was an AI tag for forced on books like this.
Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.Your turn, and I look forward to what you think of my Going In Almost Completely Blind story.
