The tension here is suffocating because we know Mo Chixiao is not someone who tolerates deception. Second layer: the rescue itself. She's breaking into a sealed residence at midnight with a guard who has strictly limited orders. She has to threaten two people into silence ('die without a place to be buried') while her mother is literally dying inside. And then—here's the genius part—she has to get her frail, malnourished mother through the city at 4 AM without raising suspicion. The inn scene where she throws down a hundred-tael note? That's not just comic relief, that's her buying safety with the last of her resources. But the real stakes are emotional. Every time Chen Shi says 'It wasn't your father who sent you to find me,' the reader feels the weight of a decade of betrayal. Jiang Chuji is fighting not just external enemies but her mother's ingrained hope that her husband will change. That internal conflict—between filial duty and self-preservation—is what makes these chapters so gripping. I was literally holding my breath through the entire rescue sequence.

Shameless author review here. There are some things I want to point out.This novel is mostly Isekai, but taken place in an MMORPG where the souls of the victims are trapped inside the game. The main character is a king, but he doesn’t necessarily have a harem since he’s mainly asexual, and is attracted to power above all else.There are some dark elements in this novel like (?), and other horrible things, so if that makes you uncomfortable I’d advise staying away. Though it only happens once and it doesn’t really show it.I made this novel based on my online friends and us as a group, who’s mainly Phantom Mutiny. I hope you can enjoy the world building and lore of the story, and also get immersed! Main character is a chuuni, edgy, wannabe. He was inspired off of Cid and Ainz, and he will grow over time to become something great.
