Okay so I need to talk about Pei Chi because honestly he just won me over in this batch. The scene where he meets Song Yuejiao at the cake shop and she drags him to a private room to basically beg him to marry the princess instead of her? That is such a Song Yuejiao move, and his reaction is everything. He just sits there, ears red, not refusing, not agreeing—just...existing in this awkward limbo. And then when she's doing her whole 'I'm nothing compared to a princess' speech, his response is basically 'you're a county lady, don't belittle yourself.' Not even a little flirtatious, just deadpan sincerity. The man is built different. And that line—'Unless Miss Song doesn't want to, unless she wants to break off the engagement, I won't'—chills. He's not playing games. He's not using her. He's just...loyal in the most boring, reliable way possible. Which is honestly more attractive than all the dramatic declarations in these types of novels usually are. Meanwhile Song Qingqi is over here trying to manipulate him into taking the princess route, and Pei Chi just shuts it down with 'I'm not someone who would betray his faith.' Bro really said that like it was the most obvious thing in the world. I'm not crying, you're crying. Also the Qiao Shuang and Song Yuejiao dynamic is fascinating—Qiao Shuang lying about her wound, Song Yuejiao knowing but playing along, then Qiao Shuang's internal monologue about how she'd rather bully someone than deal with marriage rules. This woman is a menace and I love her. But seriously, Pei Chi. How is he still single in these pages? The Emperor trying to set him up with the princess is basically the universe's way of testing his character, and he passes with flying colors. What do you think—does Pei Chi actually have feelings for Song Yuejiao beyond duty, or is he just the most honorable guy in the novel?
I need everyone to understand that Pei Cheng'an staying up past midnight, left his phone on instead of his usual routine, falling asleep then waking to a notification and instead of just texting back — NO, he goes on a DEEP DIVE into Xia Zhen's Moments. An HOUR. He reads every post. Every food pic. Every selfie. He notices she posts junk food and pretty selfies. He LIKES the wisdom tooth photo and she's mortified. This man is SO into her and he's doing it so quietly. And then the coax-to-sleep scene? The microbiology lecture? That is the most Pei Cheng'an thing ever. He's a scientist. His love language is literally academic torment disguised as care. "Precisely because you're not interested, listening to it will feel boring. The more I talk, the sleepier you'll get. This has been proven many times." BRO. He has PREVIOUSLY done this. He has a FILE of experiments on making girls fall asleep. And Xia Zhen, bless her chaotic heart, tries to one-up him by asking him to sing instead, naming specific patriotic songs that put HER to sleep. The banter is immaculate. What I love most is how Pei Cheng'an keeps adjusting his approach. First he offers to drive her. Then he follows her to the bar but doesn't confront Xue Chen directly. Then he stays up worrying. Then he tries the lecture trick. Then he says "I'd better read to you instead" when she pushes back. He's learning her in real time, trying different strategies, and he's genuinely trying to be good at this even though he's clearly awkward about it. Meanwhile Xia Zhen is doing her own thing — playing games, testing him, but also genuinely softening. Her mom even notices the shift and says "Go ahead and whisper all the sweet nothings you want. I won't eavesdrop." The mother knows.
I'm still thinking about the Can He Courtyard scene. The moonlight pouring down like water. The withered lotuses in the pond. Liu Lin standing motionless like a puppet with golden threads trailing from his joints up into the sky. This is the kind of imagery that stays with you—the contrast between the serene, almost poetic setting and the absolute nightmare of what's happening to these people. It's beautiful and horrifying at the same time, and I couldn't look away. The worldbuilding is layered in a way that doesn't feel like an info dump. We learn about the World Tree, the nine districts, Sentinels and Guides, the Abnormality Sequence List—all of it gets woven into Liu Ming's thoughts and observations as he's processing what's happening. The Tower as humanity's combat agency, the Seven Districts, the fact that Y231 is the 'Abnormality That Doesn't Exist' because no one can perceive it. These details matter because they're not just lore—they're plot devices waiting to explode. >The deep blue-black sky twinkled with stars. A towering, semi-transparent giant tree grew in the very center of the First District. Its canopy flowed like soft clouds, casting down star-like light specks, wrapping around the buildings below—gentle, like a cradle. This description of the World Tree is gorgeous. It sounds peaceful, protective even. But we already know from the opening that it's a PRISON for Abnormalities, and it's withering. The cradle becomes a coffin. That kind of visual irony is exactly the kind of thing that makes a world feel alive and intentional. The full moon detail is also significant—every full moon, Liu Lin comes to this courtyard alone. There's something ritualistic about it, something mournful. And now we know why: he's waiting for the Plot Threads to show him the future. The setting isn't just atmosphere; it's a stage for cosmic horror.
Hello again ?? here's another one of my stories a new one at that I'd love to read your reviews about it thank you and love y'all who's been so supportive thus far ?
This is a great novel with solid character development. Like a previous person said, I love Eris character synopsis saying that she started like any overlooked individual. I want her overpowered soon. When her magic becomes Divine High creativity, that will be ?...
"Today, the whispers of a new dawn unfold as my soul’s creation sees the light. These chapters are more than ink on paper—they are fragments of a journey through shadows and redemption. I pray they rekindle the fire of stories within you, as they transformed my own void into constellations. This tale, *The Symphony of Shattered Souls*, now rests in your hands. To me, it is not just a book… it is a mirror to the unseen, deserving of every star in the sky
I'm like this one! The beginning draws you in and keep s you wanting to see what happens. Can;t wait to see how this plays out. Keep writing I'm enjoying this :D
it is a great book to read and I'd recommend it to anyone
The writing quality is good on most parts, and the story develops at a speed one can understand. The characters to me all evil...just were did the kind people go? Even those named kind, are doing something bad in the background. Although, the Mc develops gradually, we still have to see more about the side characters.
Backstory is well written. The main character is hateable at first but as I keep reading, my like for him starts growing and even his fraud acts.
Awesome book, author. keep it up.I'm going to support your book no matter what.
It must be a best romance here I've ever found
