The stakes in this section are absolutely enormous and the author layers them so effectively. On the surface, there's the auction conflict: Yan Tang vs. whoever else wants Haiyan, with ten million taels of gold as the price. But the author immediately escalates this by reminding us that Haiyan belonged to Prince Chang'an, and the Emperor still fears her memory. If Yan Tang buys this ring openly, he's not just being romantic—he's potentially declaring treason. The political stakes are life and death. Then there's Ji Junjiao's internal conflict. He's trying to protect the empire, protect his position, protect his friend Yan Tang from himself. He genuinely doesn't understand why Yan Tang would risk everything for a thumb ring. That gap between them—Yan Tang's all-consuming obsession versus Ji Junjiao's duty-bound rationality—is where the real drama lives. Qin Buwen's conflict is even more layered. She's walking into a room with a man who has tried to kill her multiple times, a man who commands an intelligence network, and she's holding information that could destroy him. But she's also making a calculated offer—she needs the Wanwu Pavilion's help, and she's trading her silence for it. The power balance is razor-thin. And Yun Heyue? He's caught between his duty to the Northern Desert and this unexpected threat in his own headquarters. When he tries to kill her and she stops him with a hairpin, the stakes just shifted again. He's no longer the predator. The realization in his eyes when he can't even see her move? That's fear. Real, genuine fear from a man who's never been outmatched. Every conflict in this section feeds into the others. The political tension, the personal obsession, the spy network drama—it's all connected and the author makes you feel the weight of every choice.
I need to talk about this one moment because it absolutely destroyed me in the best way. So the banquet is happening, everyone's eating, and Li Luo picks up her chopsticks to find her bowl already full of meat and vegetables—perfectly balanced for someone trying to lose weight. She doesn't know who put it there. But then she thinks: it must be Qin Mian, because some plates are nearly empty, meaning he secretly served her while others were distracted. And the text says: "She couldn't describe the feeling—only that it was warm. She gave him a sweet smile." And his response? "Qin Mian's lips curved in a faint smile." THAT'S IT. That's the entire romantic arc of these two people right there. No grand confessions, no dramatic declarations. He shows love by noticing what she needs and doing it quietly. She shows love by noticing he did it and smiling back. Two people who can't quite say how they feel yet, communicating entirely through actions. This is what makes their chemistry work so well. They're both awkward. Remember earlier when he bought her pastries and she scowled because she's on a diet? He looked awkward. That's their whole dynamic—he tries, fumbles, tries again in a different way. She pushes back, then softens. But it's not just romantic. The family emotional layers are rich too. Grandma Qin genuinely beams when she sees Li Luo dressed up: "Luoluo looks so beautiful today!" And she means it—she sees past the weight, past the reputation, and just sees her granddaughter-in-law. That warmth matters. Then there's Li Luo's bitter inner monologue: "If I hadn't seen myself in the mirror, you might've tricked me into believing that." Oof. The gap between how others see her and how she sees herself—that's the real emotional wound here. She's not just dealing with a new family; she's dealing with a decade of self-hatred that doesn't vanish because someone called her pretty. And Qin Xinyi's rage? It's not just jealousy of Li Luo—it's the realization that her little uncle, the man who used to grant her every request, now chooses to care for someone else. That's a different kind of heartbreak.
Let's talk about the symbols in this chapter because they're doing SO MUCH work. The big rooster first. Ning Yuchan held her wedding ceremony with a rooster in her husband's place. A rooster. This image is everywhere — it represents everything that's been taken from her: her husband, her dignity, her future. And yet she doesn't complain. She goes to work. She boils medicine. She borrows books. The rooster is a ghost that haunts every scene. Then there are the books. Huo Mingqian's study full of medical texts, the ones Ning Yuchan reaches for not out of leisure but out of necessity. She wants to restore the dog-skin medicinal plaster formula to help her father-in-law. Education as survival, not status. And her own history — a desk gnawed apart by rats, burned as firewood — is the perfect counterpoint. The rats didn't just eat wood, they ate her chance at learning. And now here she is, standing in someone else's study, being told she can read whatever she wants. The paper and ink she borrows — she couldn't afford them. But Huo Mingqian gives them freely. In a world where paper and books are expensive luxuries, this small act becomes almost radical. Knowledge as something that should flow, not be hoarded. And the village gossip itself — it's a symbol of how women's lives are consumed as entertainment. Ning Yuchan's suffering, her wedding to a man who may never return, her poverty — it's all just content for the aunties.
waiting for more updates. i hope the author can make story engaging and not make mc too overpowered. and also hope that authors doesn't go on long hiatus and label this as working on novel, when irl, he is fk-ahem goofing around
Loving it so far. please post more often author. jeep up the good work
I will go for strength rather than intelligence fights or story . Intelligence without the strength is futile one plan wrong you die.Still quite a good approach and I appreciate it.Novel is masterpiece. Highly recommended ?(I am giving five start because it's good.I will edit after 50 chapters if something changes or story derives from it path)

I have to say, the main character’s development is spot on and exactly as promised. The plot is gripping, and the writing quality is absolutely top-notch. This is definitely a great read—highly recommend it, guys!
The updates have been somewhat inconsistent, which can be a bit frustrating for readers who are eager to follow the story. While the content is generally well-worth the wait, having a more reliable update schedule would greatly enhance the reading experience

This started as one of the recommended reads that I have tried and after reading its synopsis, I knew that this was my cup of tea. This takes another twist or approach on the apocalypse thing which makes it more fun and interesting; from the main characters and the supporting ones as well, you’ll get to see their in-depths alongside the dynamics between them and within their eccentricity and intricacies. Also I’m so much interested in the horrors that we will be witnessing unfold in every chapter that will need someone’s wish fulfilled, even more of the macabre that can be seen. I’m glad I added this into my library and will sure do want to finish this til the end. I also will be checking the author’s other two books, which I am sure are worth reading, too.
