Can we just take a moment to appreciate how the author uses dialogue to make us hate the female lead without actually making her do anything terrible? Bai Qianqian says things like "We're all comrades, and everyone will take care of me!" and "You three should hurry back to your rooms" in what the text describes as a "milky and adorable" voice. But Su Mi's internal reaction is pure disgust—she's summoning all the hardships she's endured just to keep from laughing out loud. The gap between how the original novel describes her and how she actually comes across in this scene? Chef's kiss. And Li Fan! "I've heard some people with questionable morals love to steal others' things. I bought this especially for you." Bro, you just accused a random girl of being a thief in front of everyone and you think you're being romantic? The dialogue here is doing so much work. Li Fan sounds confident and generous on the surface but his words are actually manipulative and cruel. And Bai Qianqian's response—"How can you say that, Brother Fan? All the educated youth sent to the countryside are good comrades"—she's playing along, performing kindness while clearly knowing exactly what he did. She's not naive, she's strategic. The narrative voice is also doing heavy lifting. Su Mi's internal monologue is sharp, sarcastic, and deeply modern. When she describes Gu Mo as "the epitome of a refined scoundrel" or when she can't stop thinking about the female lead's intimate scenes from the original novel—this is a narrator who knows she's inside a story and isn't afraid to wink at us. The humor lands because it's earned through observation, not forced jokes.
I'll be honest — I was worried this would be one of those stories that drags in the beginning. But the pacing here is surprisingly tight. The chapter opens with the military truck arriving, which immediately creates intrigue. Then we follow Qiao Nianyao from the Educated Youth Compound back home, and the author uses this journey to build anticipation. The villagers' speculation, the dog's bark, the crowd surrounding the house — each beat adds to the tension. When she finally enters the room and sees Song Qingfeng lying on the kang, the emotional impact hits hard. The author doesn't rush this moment. We get the dialogue with the two soldiers, the careful way they deliver the news about his legs, Qiao Nianyao's silence that speaks volumes. And then the villagers outside can hear everything — that's a nice touch that adds to the claustrophobic feeling of having no privacy in a small village. But here's what really impressed me: the chapter doesn't end on the injury reveal. It pivots to Qiao Nianyao's backstory, and that's where the pacing gets clever. The transmigrator revelation comes as a quiet internal monologue rather than a dramatic announcement. It's like the author is saying, okay, you thought you knew what kind of story this was? Wrong. The final line about the original owner's suicide attempt is a perfect hook. It makes you immediately want to turn the page. The chapter moves from external drama (the injury, the villagers) to internal revelation (who Qiao Nianyao really is) and ends on a question that demands an answer. That's good structural work.
THIS. BOOK. IS. INSANE. (In the best way possible!) Not a single dull moment. I mean it. From a painful death to a rebirth during S*X (yes, you read that right!), this book is a rollercoaster. The FL? Witty, sly, and absolutely hilarious—watching her outsmart everyone is *chef’s kiss.* The ML? Cold as a damn glacier, paranoid as hell, but completely obsessed with her. And when I say whipped, I mean 'WHIPPED.' The comedy, the intensity, the tension—everything is PERFECT. The writing? Insanely good. Not to mention the author!!! I have read many of her works and they all were masterpieces! If you want a story that will keep you hooked, make you laugh, and still leave you gasping at the twists, stop scrolling and READ THIS. You won’t regret it!!!!
I like reading this. But just for consistency purposes, the Byzantines as we call them today, did not refer to themselves as Byzantines. The Byzantine Empire is actually the Easter Roman Empire, and thus, they refer to themselves as Romans. It was a bit painful to read as these Byxantine characters were referring calling the Romans, where in fact they are really the continuation of the Romans and they continued to refer themselves as Romans. I think even the Ottoman Turks refer to them as Romans. Only the West do not call them as Romans, but they called them Greeks or the Empire of the Greeks at that time. They did this because there was an entity back then known as the Holy Roman Empire which based mostly in Germany. The West treated this as the successor of the Roman Empire rather than accepting the Eastern Roman Empire or ,Byzantine Empire as we call them now, as the successors of the Romans. I think it would be just good to incorporate this but I guess it would be hard. You can do a bit more research so you can confirm that what I said was right. Unless that this is as translation?
