Yu Wei. Oh my god, Yu Wei is the kind of character who makes you want to throw the book across the room. Let me just say this upfront: she is TERRIBLE and I love that the author didn't make her cartoonishly evil—she's subtly poisonous in the most realistic way possible. "Miss Xu... do you know ballet?" said with this fake sweetness while secretly hoping the girl would fail. She's testing Xu Nianchu with an impossible requirement because she wants her son to marry someone useful, not someone who outshines him. That's not even cartoon villainy—that's real-life toxic mother-in-law energy. And Old Master Lu? He sees right through it immediately. "Do you take me for a fool just because I'm old?" CHILLS. The fact that he's old and everyone underestimates him is such a satisfying dynamic. He's the only one in that room who actually recognizes Xu Nianchu's worth in real time. But the most interesting relationship shift is between Xu Nianchu and Lu Beichen. He's the one who ends up driving her home, and the detail about her blistered heel? That's the kind of small, intimate moment that builds chemistry without any dialogue. He offers to bandage her wound, she refuses, he tosses the bandage in her lap anyway. That's it. That's the whole scene. And it says SO MUCH about both of them—he's considerate but respects her boundaries, she's independent but clearly touched even if she won't admit it. Meanwhile, Lu Shijia's score dropping to negative is the funniest beat. Xu Nianchu's internal monologue: "With a mother-in-law like this... Even if he were the most handsome man alive, she would never choose him." I laughed out loud. She's already mentally canceled the engagement and she hasn't even left the room.
I've been thinking about this book a lot since reading it, and the symbolism around poison and hidden objects is honestly striking. Gu Xu has a poison in his body that only Qin Yunchuan understands, and his mother's heirloom is the one thing his father uses to control him. Two different kinds of captivity, really—one physical, one emotional. The heirloom specifically feels like a symbol of everything Gu Xu has lost. His mother is gone, his father is cruel, and this object is the last tangible connection to her. But it's also weaponized against him. That's such a dark commentary on how family treasures can become chains when the people holding them don't have your best interests at heart. And then there's Mianmian's ability to hear plants and animals. On the surface it's just a cute supernatural element, but I keep thinking about what it represents: Mianmian can hear the voices that others ignore. The cactus, the cat, the little creatures—these are all things the powerful in these families would dismiss. But she listens to them, and because of that, she sees truths that everyone else misses. "Fool, my Mianmian is a treasure. A unique, one-of-a-kind treasure." Qin Yunchuan saying this right after she fears being called a monster... it mirrors the whole theme. In a world where people are valued for what they can do or what they're worth, Mianmian's difference is what makes her precious. Not despite her ability, but because of it. She's the one person who can actually solve these problems because she pays attention to what others overlook.
Okay let me unpack some symbolism because this text is layered. The orange — it keeps appearing at crucial emotional moments. Lu Zhixing peels it with these fair, careful fingertips, removing every bit of white pith, arranging the segments neatly. It's an act of service, of devotion, of trying to make something beautiful and accessible for someone who can't receive it. And then Wen Lan offers him a segment back. It's the first exchange of care between them, and it's framed as food, as something physical and tangible. You can't eat love, but you can eat an orange someone peeled for you. The red birthmark on Lu Zhixing's face — it's described almost like a wound, stretching across his cheek near his ear. In a world where he's considered ugly, this mark becomes both his shame and his identity. And the fact that there are no photographs in the house? That's not just a mystery detail — it's symbolic of how this family has been erased, hidden, kept from the world. Wen Lan's amber eyes described as 'cold as shattered ice' versus Dudu's 'bright and transparent as crystal' — the next generation sees clearly while the mother is fractured. And that oppressive heaviness in Wen Lan's chest that returns throughout? It's not just her illness. It's the weight of a life she didn't choose, a family she doesn't understand, and a truth she hasn't uncovered yet. The story is about how love persists even when you can't name it, even when you're forgetting, even when the world has turned upside down.

This novel is very hot, the best mother and son NTR I have read. This is a translation of a Chinese novel? If so, can you give me the information where the original material comes from?
hopefully you keep going and improve your writing along with world building
Hope you like it I gain nothing from writing but to kill some boredom, I read a lot of novels and got bored from repetitive work, looking for something new give this a shot. Hope you like it.
I'll be the poison tester here ?I've read up to four chapters and its's good so far other than the three poems in chapter one, I've not encountered anything major that tipped me off.So yeah next time cut back on the poems and you'll get a five stars next time (Author don't delete them entirely though, I liked some of them.)I'll give a summary/synopsis of the first few chapters as well for fellow readers who are hesitating.Man with dog gets reincarnated into a fantasy world in the medievalish era.Story is currently still full of mystery and wonder for the magic system, but author has given clues here and there. Peace out ~kindred scholar
it's really nice nglnice story line i wish you can publish more chapters 10/10 totally recommend
I still can't move on from my current reading chapter, but I want to give a review. This book is definitely worth anyone's time! The story takes you from one tragic episode to another, and I promise, you won’t be able to take your mind off it easily. There's something about the author’s writing style that hooks you to Leo’s story, and you won’t want to let go until you’ve finished the latest update. The world, the emotions, and the motivations are so raw. This is truly a gem on this platform!
