Okay so this part where Su Nuonuo literally storms the Academic Affairs Office to defend Lu Zhiye — I need to talk about this because it is EVERYTHING. Think about what she's doing here. She's a good student, a rich girl, completely untouchable in the school hierarchy. And she just waltzed in there and put her reputation on the line for a boy everyone calls a school bully. That's not just brave, that's strategically devastating for the plot because it flips the entire power dynamic. And then — and this is the part that got me — her own MOM comes in and basically says "keep your distance from him." Zhou Qing's line hit me like a truck. She's not being mean, she's being a mother. But Lu Zhiye hears it from across the room and you can literally see the warmth drain out of him. The author doesn't even need to describe it — just "his hands at his sides quietly clenched, his knuckles turning pale." Boom. Done. Then on the rooftop he tries to push her away with this brutal "I could never like someone like you, a rich young lady" and she just... smiles and says "I know. But I like you." I literally gasped out loud. The way she doesn't even flinch, doesn't even try to argue with his self-loathing — she just states it as fact, like it's the simplest thing in the world. And he runs away. Of course he runs away. He's not ready to believe someone could want him this badly. The plot is building this slow burn of internal and external obstacles and I am HERE for it. Every time he gets close to letting his guard down, something pulls him back. Chen Che's warning, his own poverty, the rumors, her mother's disapproval. What a beautiful mess.
The way this author builds the world is quietly masterful. You don't get massive exposition dumps about the Pei marquisate—you learn everything through intimate, sensory details that make it feel lived-in. Take Aunt Shen's wardrobe. Shaohuai notices she wears "muted lotus-colored dress, carefully masking her fair skin" and remembers overhearing servants say she used to favor pastel pink or greenish-blue. That's it. Three sentences about clothing choices, and you understand her entire history: she rose from maid to concubine, she's walking on eggshells since Lin Shi arrived, she's surviving through invisibility. The worldbuilding is in the fabric. The grandmother's courtyard scenes are so vivid. You can picture the soft couches, the quilt being pulled up, the way Grandmother strokes the baby to sleep. There's this moment where the two toddler grandsons sit side by side—both handsome, both observing—and Shaohuai reaches out to grab Jin'er's hand. The text says they made sounds, "oh" and "ah," as if conversing. Zhou Mama calls it wonderful. Grandmother laughs. It's just a domestic scene, but the atmosphere is so warm and specific you can feel the sunlight coming through the windows. Even the seasonal shifts matter. Early spring arrives with "a gentle breeze stirred the willow branches" and suddenly the servants are busy, the marriage arrangements are advancing, and you feel time actually passing through the environment. This isn't a story that happens in a white room—it's anchored in a real place with real textures.
The dialogue in these chapters is absolutely razor-sharp. Let me just say this: Lin Wan has the most devastating way of saying nothing while saying everything. Take this exchange. Old Madam Lu wails: "She pinned me down and beat me, then locked me in her room! She even stole my cooking oil!" And Lin Wan's response? She just shrugs and says, "Old Madam's throwing another tantrum." That's it. Three words. She doesn't defend herself. She doesn't argue. She just reframes the entire accusation as the ramblings of a hysterical old woman. The dismissal is so casual it's brutal. But then there's the scene where she explains the oil usage, and the dialogue shifts completely. She goes from dismissive to devastatingly earnest: "If I didn't know better, I wouldn't worry. But now that I do, how could I stand by and watch my family suffer these diseases? That would be like abandoning them to die. To have the means to prevent such starvation-related illnesses and still let them happen... I could never do something so heartless and immoral..." Listen to that. She's not just explaining her actions—she's constructing an moral argument so airtight that Old Man Lu has to concede. And she does it while "lowering her head and wiping away nonexistent tears." The performance is impeccable. Old Man Lu's voice is also wonderfully rendered. Taciturn, gruff, practical. "Third Daughter-in-Law, you need to learn to manage a household properly. Stop using oil when you cook." He's trying to assert authority but he's already been outmaneuvered. His concession to "let's eat it every ten days" is such a perfect character beat—he's saving face while quietly admitting she was right. And Lu Zhengting! The man who barely speaks, whose entire presence in these chapters is defined by silence and observation. When he stands quietly to the side, watching Lin Wan's performance with that "strange mix of numbness, itchiness, bitterness, and tenderness"—the narrative tells us everything his silence could never say out loud.
Interesting. Let’s see how this novel will turn out in future.
i love how you frequently update the book!
love the book so much, looking forward to the next chapter, I love the thrill and the suspense , and I don't wait for their romance period, because this is getting really exciting
Great idea for a twist to the reincarnation genre of fantasy. The prologue was wonderful, it gave us a small glimpse of the world building from the get go. Big time skip at the beginning, great comedy laced in the undertones of the story. Overall great read if you want a story that is of the reincarnation genre and does not disappoint or bore you.
I've only read three chapters so far, but the character arc for the protagonist is amazing. From a wounded weakling to a powerful monster who is able to stand up to the war mother. This book has a mysterious pace that keeps you wondering about the characters and their back stories (who they are) and the world they live in (and its rules).

Hello Dear Readers, this is my first time writing a werewolf story. The story contains a rollercoaster ride of Melissa and Radulf. While former is fighting to be loved and seen by her mate, the latter wants revenge. I can't reveal much, but Radulf's character is filled with angst because of what happened with him in the past. Once it will be revealed, you all will connect to him more and more as the story progresses. As for the female lead, Melissa, she had a tough childhood and was being locked in the cold palace for 18 years until one day she was ordered to marry Radulf and finally got free. However, that was not her freedom since she has to navigate a lot of obstacles. Radulf has become thick skinned after losing his family and himself too, so his actions are going to anger all of you. However, with time he will melt away and realise how wrong he was to Melissa. I hope you all give a chance to this story. Thank you and Happy Reading ?
