The opening scene of this chapter is just *chef's kiss*. Ji Changqing is out in public, sees a funeral procession, and immediately goes into investigator mode. The detail about him furrowing his brow and ordering Baifu to find out whose funeral it is—this is a man who can't turn off his job brain even on a casual walk. And then the setting shifts to Ci'an Hall, where Madam Feng and Madam Qi are basking in the sun. I love how the author uses the sun as a kind of dramatic spotlight. Everyone's sitting in the courtyard, the food is being prepared, and there's this domestic warmth that contrasts sharply with the murder investigation happening in Ji Changqing's head. The kitchen scene is another highlight. Ji Changqing rolling up his sleeves and cooking—this image of a powerful prime minister in an apron is just delightfully unexpected. And the meal itself, with three people sitting together at one table, feels intimate despite the underlying tension. Then we jump to Fanlou, this pleasure quarter establishment, and suddenly the world expands. Qiao Zhenzhen's backstory—losing her mother at birth, her father framed and dying in prison, ending up on the streets—is told through her internal monologue and it paints such a vivid picture of this harsh, unforgiving world where a talented woman has to sell her art just to survive. The contrast between the warm courtyard and the precarious world of Fanlou really shows how different social strata exist side by side.
The imagery in this book is doing so much heavy lifting. Let me just start with the very first image we get when Swallow Holding Branch opens her eyes after rebirthing: 'the pink canopy embroidered with butterflies and flowers.' Pink. Butterflies. Flowers. It sounds almost childish, decorative, soft—and that's the point, right? She's lying in a bed that should feel like luxury but actually feels like a gilded cage. The manor is her prison, and she just realized she's been walking into it blind. Then you have the flashback to the family temple in Jinling. The contrast is brutal. A temple, not a mansion. No servants. Her grandaunt, a nun, teaching a three-year-old girl how to survive through handicrafts and herbal knowledge. The temple isn't described as some mystical, ethereal place—it's just hard. 'No place of luxury.' The author doesn't need to dwell on it; the absence of comfort speaks for itself. But the real worldbuilding goldmine is what Swallow Holding Branch witnesses as a ghost. Ten years of drifting through the Jingyuan Marquis Manor, seeing things no living person could. The study in the front courtyard where her uncle discusses court politics. The heir's residence where the next generation is being molded. The side rooms where the main wife ruins illegitimate children. This is a whole ecosystem of power, and the author maps it out like a ghost walking through walls. The manor isn't just a setting—it's a character. Those 'four high walls' that trap her even in death? That's the marquisate itself: beautiful on the outside, suffocating on the inside, and absolutely ruthless. I also love how the author uses the spirit altar as a recurring visual. It's where the father was framed, where the mother died, where the whole betrayal took root. That altar is basically the cursed heart of the entire story.
The R18 - rated content will appear in the subsequent plot. Stay tuned!Due to the needs of the harem - themed plot, I need to write it at a slow - burn pace. The subsequent plot will get better and better, leading to a perfect ending.

too early to write the review but as far as I have read this is very very good in all ways, especially the world building.
Would have given a perfect 5 if not for the update schedule and also still early to judge, but the first few chapters were enough for me to add this to my library, and want to read more of this
ah....I will not say that I didn't like it ..but it's good you can give it a try ?
With her sister! oh my God I cannot forgive that! ? crush him like a bug. I want vengeance.
it's a overall nice book,I would recommend it to everyone
One of the best novels in my reading history the only problem is that of updating stability bit other than that everything is perfect can't ask for more.
