The dialogue in this passage is deceptively simple, and that's what makes it work. Nobody is giving speeches. People are bargaining, complaining, begging for meat. The butcher's booming voice asking “how many people are in your family?” when Fenniang only buys one jin of pork—that's not cruelty, that's just how the world sounds when you're poor. And Madam Zhang's entrance is perfect: “Why does your yard smell like a pigsty? What are you doing?” She's disgusted but she comes over anyway. The author gives each character a distinct voice without overdoing it. Zhuo Ling's dialogue is mostly short, childlike exclamations—“Meat! Want… meat!” with drool escaping—which contrasts beautifully with her internal sophistication as someone who's lived in an underground city. The narrative voice itself has this warm, slightly wistful tone that never pities the family too much. It observes. When Fenniang wipes sweat from her forehead and walks toward the pharmacy with “eyes filled with hope,” the narration doesn't say “she was desperate.” It shows us the hope. And Zhuo Chang‗an's lie about the salt—delivered with his eyes lowered, calm and steady—reveals more about his character in three sentences than most books manage in three chapters. The humor is dry and situational too. The third brother circling Fenniang's legs begging for meat while clutching his half-eaten pastry. The second brother secretly pinching off a tiny piece of pork and sucking the grease from his fingertips. These aren't jokes the author tells you to laugh at; they're observations that make you smile despite yourself.
I keep coming back to the uniform imagery in this chapter. It's everywhere and it means everything. Luo Mingzhong wears a military uniform — literally and figuratively. It's his armor, his identity, his excuse. 'Is this how you protect the people?' Fan Xiaojun says, and the question hangs in the air like smoke. The uniform is supposed to mean honor, but Luo Mingzhong uses it as a weapon against the very woman he's supposed to protect. Then there's the contrast with Fan Xiaojun, who wears a leather jacket — the uniform of a gangster in anyone else's story. But he's the one who actually acts with honor. He testifies. He drives her home. He stands up to Luo Mingzhong. The 'gangster' is the hero. The 'soldier' is the villain. The author is NOT being subtle and I am HERE FOR IT. The brick is another symbol that keeps echoing. Jiang Mingyue grabs a brick to save herself — an ordinary object, a piece of construction material, nothing heroic about it. But it becomes her instrument of justice. She wishes she'd hit harder. 'If she had known that this dog would run to the police station, she should have been more ruthless last night and given him another brick.' The brick represents self-reliance. The system failed her. The police were ready to mediate instead of protect. Her husband chose the attacker's side. And what saved her? A brick. Something heavy, something real, something she held in her own hands. And then there's the line that broke me: 'It used to be love, now it's hate.' Four words that summarize an entire emotional arc. The transformation isn't gradual — it's a cliff. One moment she's the sensible wife who forgives everything, and the next she's screaming at the top of her lungs. The hate isn't new; it's just the first time she's let it out. The chapter title itself — 'It Was Love Before, Now It Is Hate' — is basically the thesis statement for the entire rebirth narrative. She didn't lose her love for him in this chapter. She lost the ability to pretend she still had it.
An exciting book ,and it doesn't have a lengthy plot or content,it's perfect for office workers.

Please fix the pronouns' mistakes. So far, hims become hers, and vice versa. It really ruins the immersion and is just straight out confusing. Good story so far, but just please fix the pronoun mistakes.
