The ending of this section with Shi Ruyi's letter gave me chills. 'The willow buds are now turning green. I wonder if Master has already picked them.' This is the kind of line that sits with you. On the surface it's just a childhood memory between a father and daughter, but the author has built this entire mystery around the 'master' figure and now we're supposed to connect it to paternal love, to the idea of someone who watches over her without being seen. The willow buds as a symbol—spring, renewal, things growing whether you want them to or not. It mirrors Wen Youan's feelings that won't stop growing despite every rejection. And the window as a threshold—the letter appears and disappears like a ghost, this invisible presence that has been guiding Shi Ruyi since she was eight years old. What's fascinating is how the theme of invisible guardianship connects all the characters. Wen Youan is invisible to Shi Ruyi in the way he wants to be seen. Su Linjing pretends not to care but his clenched handkerchief betrays him. The master is literally invisible. Even Lin Yuan's family is 'invisible' in court society until they make a scene. There's also this recurring motif of feet and movement—Wen Youan's sprained ankle, him running, him collapsing, being carried, being confined to his room. The inability to move freely is such a potent metaphor for his situation. He wants to run toward Shi Ruyi but physically can't. She wants to move away from him but is socially trapped. The house arrest is the ultimate symbol of his lack of agency. And then Shi Ruyi, who has power and freedom in other contexts, is still writing letters to a window, still waiting for someone to appear. Everyone is trapped in their own way.
I've been thinking a lot about how this author handles dialogue, and I need to unpack something: the best conversations in these chapters are the ones where nobody says what they actually mean. Take Mistress Song's opening line: "Ever since you arrived, I've heard the servants talk about your stunning looks. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling well and couldn't receive guests, otherwise I wouldn't have waited until today to meet such a striking beauty." On the surface: warm, welcoming, slightly self-deprecating. Underneath: I heard you're beautiful and that threatens me, so I'm preemptively framing your beauty as something I'm acknowledging before you can use it against me. Also, I was mourning my baby so you can't accuse me of ignoring you. Also, I'm establishing that I'm the host and you're the guest, which means I control this interaction. And Li Wanran's response is equally layered: "By right, I should have visited when I first entered the palace, but I was afraid of disturbing your recovery. I've let time slip away until today; it is I who should apologize." Translation: I knew you were mourning your dead child and I didn't want to seem like I was celebrating my arrival while you were grieving, so I stayed away. I'm not ignoring you — I'm being respectful. Also, I'm not inferior to you, I'm just cautious. This is dialogue as warfare, and both women are armed to the teeth. But what makes it feel natural and not like a chess match is the humor. Li Wanran's internal monologue — the part where she praises herself for understanding Zhang's insult, the part where she's worried about the Prince's looks — gives us access to the real person behind the performance. The dialogue is the mask; the narration is the face. The author's voice in the narration is also doing wonderful work. It's witty without being snarky, observant without being cold, and it has this specific rhythm that feels like a friend telling you a story at 2 AM. "Heaven help me, please let Yinzhen not look like those paintings!" — that's not narration. That's a human being having a panic attack about a man she hasn't even met yet, and it's absolutely hilarious. I also want to mention Concubine Zhang's dialogue specifically because her voice is so distinct. She's the only character who drops the polite facade entirely. When she says "Tsk, it's a question of whether the Fourth Prince even remembers Mistress Li," it's not coded. It's a direct hit. And that contrast — Song and Yi speaking in layers, Zhang speaking in blunt instruments — tells us everything we need to know about their personalities without a single descriptive sentence.
Okay, let me just say this — the scene where Jiang Yunzhi pulls out that video and exposes Jiang Lulu's whole scheme was absolutely chef's kiss. Like, she didn't just wait to be framed this time. She actually PREPARED. She paid a servant 300,000 yuan days before the banquet just to copy the security footage. That is some next-level planning right there. The original plot had her defenseless, right? But she read the book, knew what was coming, and turned the tables before anyone even suspected. The way she forced Jiang Ceheng to check the footage on his phone, and then Jiang Lulu literally snatched it away screaming 'No!' — you could feel the panic radiating off the page. And then Old Madam Yan's reaction? Perfect. She didn't just let it slide. She had the Jiang family kicked out entirely. The plot structure here is so satisfying because it sets up the original tragedy (framed, humiliated, marital strain) and then systematically dismantles every single beat of it. Jiang Lulu's little white lotus act? Shattered in public. The family's bias? Exposed for what it was. One question though — is Shen Xuzhou's reaction to the call going to become a bigger plot point later? Because that ending where Yan Wenjing answers the phone and says 'She's taking a shower' felt like it was setting up something way bigger than just a jealous ex.
Lin Heng is one of my favorite kinds of male leads—the silent type who communicates entirely through internal monologue and tiny physical reactions. The author does this incredible thing where we get his full, chaotic inner voice while outwardly he's just sitting there like a stone statue. The contrast is hilarious AND heartbreaking. Like when Qingqing stares at him while he's eating and he thinks, 'It's your own fault, woman, staring at a man like that without the slightest shame'—but he doesn't say any of that out loud. He just coughs. The relationship dynamic between them is so rich because Qingqing is completely unaware of what he's actually thinking. She sees a cold, pampered young master. He's actually a deeply observant, emotionally complex man who's slowly letting his guard down. There's this one moment where he watches her work in the garden and thinks 'Who exactly is this woman? Is there anything she can't do?' and you can see his perception of her shifting in real time. And Qingqing—she's bold, shameless, relentless. The text literally says 'If Qingqing had known what the man across from her was thinking, she would have climbed right on top of him and torn his mouth apart.' That line made me laugh out loud. Their dynamic is basically: she projects warmth onto him, he resists but gradually melts, and neither of them has the vocabulary (literally, in his case) to acknowledge what's happening between them.
Existential horror is one of my favourite types of stories solid foundation keep writing even though your small you have greatness in your work i wanna see how arc grows
The first chapter was intense. The characters are fleshed out.It has great potential.Would like to see more of authors world and the mysterious women.
amazing story, the author needs to upload more chapters
Hey a five star from me because I love creating and reading novels. And it's my first novel. Also readers aren't able to give powestones here. why ? If anyone knows, tell me ok ?
I like how lucky Rhett is??, and how strong his fighting style is. The other characters are still in developing, and I wish to see more about them in the earlier chapters?
Hello everyone as the author of this novel I would like to tell how my story will progress and take the opportunity to answer future questions. There will be no harem, smut, so I hope I don't read comment who ask if the MC has any romantic relationships or tell me to include them. Well, if your goal in reading this novel is to look for an impassive character who is obsessed with a quest for power and domination then you've come to the right place. I also think that my story will be quite slow since I plan to write a maximum of 700 chapters, so I would like you to know that when you start reading to better adapt since the story will not progress very quickly. I also plan to introduce several gods in my novel but I will not explain their story because it will be very boring. I can just say that they will be fairly well-known gods that you already know about so I will focus more on the development of their different interactions.Thank you !! Keep reading and support my novel.
You have something good going on here, Author. Don't stop.
I don’t usually leave reviews.. buttttIt’s a book from Lncea, and bro is underrated but his books are always gems on this app.Especially when it comes to writing villain characters, he definitely delivers. I have no doubt that this will be a good story, hopefully it blows up and becomes big
