Okay so let me just say this: the Mother Wen reveal is peak manipulation and I am SHOOK. Wen Yining genuinely had no idea what happened. She remembers the juice, then blackness. That's it. And Mother Wen's text message — "Saw the news. Well done. Leave the rest to us." — that is COLD. Like, genuinely chilling. She's been grooming this girl since childhood for a marriage alliance and then DRUGGED her to force the outcome. The plot thickens and honestly I'm just sitting here fuming on Wen Yining's behalf. And then Xi Yu's side of things? The boardroom scene where they're losing twelve billion because of a scandal? Chef's kiss for raising the stakes. It's not just a romantic entanglement anymore — it's capitalism colliding with personal drama, and the author is playing 4D chess here. The Old Master showing up at the end demanding Xi Yu propose? That's a plot bomb. Xi Yu's refusal — "I will never marry her" — sets up this entire conflict engine for the rest of the story. I can already tell this is going to be a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers situation where everyone is lying to everyone, and I am HERE for it.
The pacing in these chapters is genuinely impressive. It starts intimate—wake up, tangled sheets, a kiss on the forehead—then pivots to the domestic world of Yunniang and Yangyang, then to the school, then to the letter, then back to Jiang Xingzhou's POV. Each shift feels earned, not rushed. The classroom scene is the standout moment structurally: it's long, deliberate, and serves multiple purposes at once. We meet Ji Yinghe with his dream of becoming a good official, Zhuang Qiushi with his humble farming ambition, and Wang Lan with her terrifyingly clear-eyed acceptance of her fate. Feng Yi's response to each student reveals her philosophy in real time—she's not just teaching classics, she's teaching them to think. The Wang Lan scene especially slows everything down and lets the weight settle. "My future is already written out before me"—that line hit me like a truck. And then Jiang Xingzhou is watching all of this from outside the window, completely captivated. The structure mirrors the theme: just as Feng Yi is trying to give her students agency over their futures, the narrative itself is refusing to let her stay in one place. She can't just be a teacher or a cousin or a lover—she's all of these at once, and the chapters keep shifting perspective to remind us. The letter burning at the end? Perfect cliffhanger energy without being cheap.
Okay so let me just say this: the butterfly effect in this book is absolutely INSANE and I love it. In the original novel, Fang Xinghe was supposed to invite Shen Hui to this banquet, right? That's literally how the whole triangle kicks off. But Shang Wan exists now, and suddenly Fang Xinghe is like 'why would I invite YOUR die-hard fan?' and the plot just... implodes. The original setup is completely derailed before it even starts. And then Fu Chen shows up and basically forces Shang Wan into the engagement drama. He's like 'cancel tonight's engagement ceremony and I'll protect you.' Who does that? Who walks into a banquet and immediately starts making deal-with-the-devil offers? But here's the thing — it's brilliant. Shang Wan goes from being a side character trying to survive to literally standing in the center of the entire conflict, claiming she and Fu Chen are dating while splashing champagne on the actual fiancée. The plot didn't just go off the rails, it left the station and took a taxi. Also can we talk about how Fu Duo is over there with his 2.1 Bond Points thinking his brother is plotting against him while literally nothing is happening? The guy is fighting imaginary enemies and Shang Wan is just watching from the sidelines like 'bro, focus on ME.'
The way this author builds the world is incredible because they never stop to explain things like a textbook. You just drop right into it. The hospital scene—stark white walls, IV tubing on her wrist, an enamel mug for water. These tiny details make it feel so real. And then the courtyard when she gets home: two beds in one room separated by a cloth curtain, a study desk making the already cramped space even smaller, the hutong outside. It's 1970s China, post-Cultural Revolution, and you can feel the era in every description. The fact that Zhou Yulan went to the neighborhood committee to ask about job assignments because the government can't provide enough positions and everyone's being told to become self-employed but it carries a bad reputation—that's not exposition, that's worldbuilding woven into character action. The old madam Zhou strutting in like a fighting rooster, the neighbors gathering to watch the drama like it's the most exciting thing to happen all week, Zhang Lihua already scanning the room for anything valuable she can steal. This isn't just a setting, it's a living breathing community where everyone knows everyone's business. And the contrast with Zhou Yuwei's previous life—the sleek office, the designer everything, the private car and driver—makes you feel the cultural whiplash she's experiencing. But what I love most is how the author uses physical space to show emotional state. That cramped bedroom with the cloth curtain between her and her sister? It's literally and figuratively separating them, even though they share everything else. And the courtyard where the whole neighborhood can hear everything? No privacy, no boundaries, but also no loneliness. The world feels alive because every scene has texture—smells, sounds, the weight of history in the walls.

Hello. I'm the author and i want to drop a review on my book. so this is my first book ever . There might be problems but I'm trying to become better. I think the quality of my chapters are still improving . let's see where it goes
I held off reviewing until now, because I wanted to wait and give my honest opinion of this novel, and now I can finally say it's peak. Why's it peak? because the author writes with passion. The story doesn't feel soulless. If you like "Red Rising" you'll mostly enjoy this. The MC is not a generic, copy and paste character. He has personality. The dynamic he has between other characters are well written. The grammar is good, though I'm sure there's room for improvement, I'm too dumb to notice. The power system is great, from what I've seen so far. It's actually quite unique, I haven't seen anything like it. The Mc's power seems like it's going to be alot of fun to see how he uses it.overall I came expecting silver and struck gold instead, I really hope the author continues this story!
A powerful and suspenseful story! The author has created an intense atmosphere that makes me feel the emotions of the main character. The way he is dealing with his past, his guilt, and his search for identity is beautifully written. I also love the deep conversations. They make you reflect on life. I’m excited to see how the story unfolds!
