TheMYU
"Jiao Jiao, be good. Whatever you want to say, tell me when we get back. I'll help you figure it out." He covered her mouth, held her half in his arms, and whispered those words—and Shi Meijiao literally melted. Blushed. Forgot about the rations entirely. I need to talk about Zhou Shuchen because this man is a walking contradiction and I am HERE for it. On one hand, he's clearly still emotionally attached to An Ruoyan—he thinks 'She really still loves me' when she watches him handle Shi Meijiao. On the other hand, he's actively choosing to stay with Shi Meijiao, even agreeing to cook with the older youth because SHE won't let him near An Ruoyan. The brigade leader even notes he's 'not completely useless' in that moment. But is he useful, or is he just competent at performing the role of a boyfriend while his heart does backflips for someone else? And then there's An Ruoyan's reading of him. She sees him controlling Shi Meijiao and feels 'satisfaction'—not because she wants them together, but because it proves he's not entirely worthless. That's such a specific, complicated emotion. She's evaluating him like a tool, not a person. Meanwhile Shi Meijiao's jealousy is so transparent—she won't let Zhou Shuchen join An Ruoyan's cooking group, and the text explicitly says 'She didn't want Zhou Shuchen and An Ruoyan to get mixed up again.' Mixed up again implies a history. A past. And the narrative hasn't even explained it yet, which is both frustrating and addictive.
There's this one scene that stuck with me. The ancestral hall of Yingguo Gongfu. Jiang Yunxi walks in and the text says she felt "a pure and righteous aura that refreshed her spirit." That's it. That's the whole description. But it works so well because it tells us everything about this family. Generations of loyal martyrs. Even their memorial tablets carry that righteous energy. It's a small detail but it paints the entire world of this story. The Jiang family isn't just powerful—they're morally grounded. And that makes the internal conflicts within the family so much more interesting because the rot isn't in the foundation, it's in the people. The palace scene earlier was also striking—the Retired Emperor bedridden, Eunuch Qin kneeling in fear, the black mist from the talisman rising. That visual of the talisman burning into something wrong, something unnatural, set the tone immediately. And then the transition to Yingguo Gongfu with the gatekeeper being hostile, the grandmother beaming with joy, the sudden interruption about the suicide attempt—it's like the author is constantly shifting the atmosphere from warm to cold in a single paragraph. The Bloodlight Disaster foreshadowing with Jiang Yunxi trying to sell Zhan Beiyuan a protective talisman for one hundred taels of silver after discount? That's such a specific, grounded detail that makes the world feel alive. She's a cultivator in a political world and she treats fortune-telling like a side hustle. The contrast between the sacred ancestral hall and the petty family scheming is what makes this setting sing.
Okay, let me just say this: the way this whole Steward Li situation played out was absolutely *chef's kiss*. You've got this guy who's been pulling strings behind the scenes for YEARS, acting all high and mighty, bullying everyone in the manor, and then BOOM — exposed in one courtyard scene. That's not just good plotting, that's masterful setup and payoff. The reveal sequence was built like a proper thriller. First the money — three hundred taels from the treasury, found buried under a doghouse of all places. Then the letter with the Crown Prince's seal. Each piece of evidence hit like a hammer blow, and you could literally feel Steward Li's world collapsing in real time. The author didn't rush it either — they let each revelation breathe, let the servants react, let the tension build until the whole courtyard was holding its breath. But the real plot twist? Shen Yu's inner monologue about punishment. While everyone expected Chu Xiao to just execute the traitor (which would've been the standard move), she casually suggests something far more creative — sending him to shovel manure for life. And Chu Xiao, this notoriously violent prince, actually *listens*. That moment where his killing intent shifts into something else? That's not just a plot beat, that's a character-defining decision that ripples forward. The pacing here is also worth noting. The scene moves from interrogation to evidence reveal to confession to punishment in one continuous flow, but it never feels rushed. Each beat lands. The only slight quibble I have is that Steward Li's breakdown into unconsciousness felt a *tiny* bit convenient — like the author needed him out of the scene quickly so they could pivot to the next plot point. But honestly, who am I to complain when the payoff was this satisfying?
It's a good story quite the cliffhanger though I hope it updates more chapters soon!
Although this season is just short, I hope the author can give us lengthy one next time! I'll def recommend this to my friends! Satisfying to read after all! Thank you for the wonderful 1st season!!!
The world of mysteries and magical unfoldings, reflecfing with basic and raw human emotions in the continuous quest of one's true self. Great story ?
I'm very much enjoying the suspense and intriguing story line. it is exciting to see where this takes me.
First of all, I'd like to say that this book is a nugget and deserves more visibility, frankly Webnovel do something about it. If you don't believe me, go and ask the people who take out a tier 5 subscription to get 20 chapters in advance. As far as the book is concerned, I can assure you that the plot is going to send some heavy stuff, the main character is developing very well and his identity is forming thanks to the experiences he's going through, which I find quite traumatic. Although there's a system, the MC isn't OP right away and the techniques, especially those using katanas, are very well detailed, so it's not just a slash forward. In short, I leave it to you to discover and trust me !
It's an incredible novel! I really enjoyed the power system; it's fascinating. The world-building is well done, though the plot could use a bit more depth.
First novel on this app, reminds me of konosuba and noragami but set in a manhwa tone, can't describe it.Lets see if author decides to upload daily
