Okay so let me just process what just happened because my heart is still racing. Zhou Zhili comes to the palace thinking he's going to get what he wants—his daughter back, his authority restored—and instead gets absolutely eviscerated in front of the Emperor and Empress. And the worst part? He had it coming. He really did. But here's what keeps me up at night: the stakes just got SO much higher. The Ji-ji ceremony is in five days. Gu Congyun is planning a recognition banquet on the same day. This isn't just a family dispute anymore—it's a public confrontation that the Emperor has now formally acknowledged. Zhou Zhili can't just sweep this under the rug. The entire court knows about Gu Ruanci now. And then Laofuren gets critically ill at the exact wrong moment. 'Someone from Jing'an Houfu has come seeking an audience. They say Laofuren is critically ill and request the Marquis to return immediately.' This feels like the universe itself is conspiring to throw chaos into everything. Is it a coincidence? Or is this the Zhou family's last desperate play? The tension between the two households has been simmering for ten years and now it's boiling over in the most public way possible. Gu Congyun's line—'If they have no shame, I will simply and directly make them lose face. My time is precious.'—tells you everything. He's not playing their game. He's changing the rules. I'm genuinely terrified for Gu Ruanci. She's won this battle, but the war? The war is just beginning. What happens when Zhou Zhili has nowhere left to run?
I need to talk about the emotional triangle in this chapter because it's not romantic in any traditional sense—it's something messier and more interesting. An Ruoyan watches Zhou Shuchen handle Shi Meijiao and feels satisfaction. Not jealousy. Not longing. Satisfaction that he's 'not completely useless.' That's such a complicated emotional register. She's still paying attention to him—of course she is—but she's also completely redefined what she wants from him. He's not her boyfriend anymore; he's an asset she's evaluating. And yet, when he looks at her on the carriage, she GLARES. The body remembers what the mind tries to reframe. Zhou Shuchen, meanwhile, is trapped between two women who both think they understand him. He believes An Ruoyan still loves him ('She really still loves me')—but is that love or is that arrogance? He's projecting his own feelings onto her silence. And with Shi Meijiao, he's performing the role of devoted boyfriend while his attention keeps drifting. The text says he 'wanted to cook with them' (An Ruoyan's group) but Shi Meijiao wouldn't allow it. He complied. But the desire was there. Shi Meijiao's emotions are the most transparent and the most tragic. She's 'destined for great things' according to her own internal narrative, yet she's being manipulated by a fifty-cent auntie and a man who looks at her rival. Her jealousy is raw and unguarded—she stands up mid-carriage ride to defend her 'little husband,' and Grandpa Liu almost makes her get off. She has no filter, no strategy, and yet she's the one who thinks she's playing chess. The CP energy between An Ruoyan and Zhou Shuchen is electric precisely because NEITHER of them is admitting anything. Every glance, every glare, every whispered command is a conversation they're having without words. And I am OBSESSED.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how Qin Heming speaks? The man says THREE WORDS and it hits harder than most people's monologues. 'No need.' 'I'm fine. Let go!' 'Little girl, you should go home.' This is a guy who was covered in blood, almost died, and his default mode is just... irritated. The voice writing for him is impeccable. Xia Nanxing's dialogue is equally distinct. She's loud, impulsive, and unapologetically chaotic. 'Quick, tie him up and take him to the hospital!' said to a boy who literally just got kidnapped. And her internal monologue with the system is where she really shines—'Good advice falls on deaf ears. So young, yet so eager to die?' That line made me laugh out loud. She's got this sharp, slightly cynical wit that comes through perfectly in her thoughts. The system's voice is another highlight. It's not just a plot device—it has personality. When it responds to her question about being the female lead, it says 'Trying to bargain for divinity with human skin?' That's not a robot. That's a snarky narrator with opinions. I love it. And the dialogue between Xia Nanxing and her dad? So natural. He's criticizing Qin Heming and she's defending him, but it doesn't feel like a debate scene—it feels like a real father-daughter conversation where they're both trying to make their points. 'You're just a kid—what do you know?' 'I hadn't even said the most cutting remark yet.' The subtext in that exchange is delicious.
Peak novel, the storyline characters world building everything was well made keep up the good work hoping for the new chapters.
The book is a few chapters but I can tell it's going to be a great book I love the concept and I hope others do too ?❤️
The suspense is killer! Maybe drop some subtle hints about the bigger mystery earlier on? It’ll make the reveals feel even more mind-blowing
It's quite interesting ?. the FL had a split personality. Maybe adding more chapters a day is recommended
Please continue the novel, since I can't read the comic one?????
So far so good i like where this is going on high level the chapters always leave each hint of our mc not that i can blame him for being like this , and the writing is absolute cook
This novel will be discontinued for a short period of time, Wait for updates and i will edit the previous chapter to add connection and great stability to he storyline!
What really pulled me in was how detailed and alive the world feels—it’s like you’re stepping right into it. the way everything in the story ties together is just chef’s kiss. You can tell the author poured their heart and soul into every piece of it. Honestly, do yourself a favor and give this one a try—you won’t regret it!
Nice system novel, I'd recommend for a long read. The relatable grammar that's not blunder filled, the graphic description of scenes with text, and character depth... good one. Would return for more.
