Let me just say: the pacing in these chapters is absolutely ruthless and I am here for it. We start with a quiet nighttime confrontation between Shen Yuan and Xie Chengze. Two guys, a pillar, some whispered threats about ten thousand taels. It's intimate, tense, almost claustrophobic. The prose slows down. You can feel every second stretching. And then - BAM - next morning, over a dozen yamen runners, wooden chests everywhere, Zhu Xiaobiao in golden robes shouting commands, and Xie Chengze suddenly kicking his subordinate across the courtyard like an action movie villain. The transition is jarring in the best way. One moment you're in a slow-burn psychological duel, the next you're watching a man in a theatrical rage swing a blade at someone while beautiful concubines throw themselves in the way. The scene escalates so fast that you barely have time to process before everyone's being loaded onto a carriage like luggage. But what I really appreciate is how the author uses the carriage ride as a pressure valve. After all that chaos, we cut to Zhu Xiaobiao untangling ropes and having a quiet(ish) conversation with Jing Ze. The tension doesn't disappear - it just changes frequency. From external violence to internal dread. Will they survive the journey? Is this really escape or just a different kind of trap? And then the chapter ends with Zhu Xiaobiao collapsing because his addiction is hitting him, and Xie Chengze casually promising to find a physician. The nonchalance is terrifying. After everything that just happened, he's lying on the windowsill like a salted fish. The pacing never lets you catch your breath, and that's exactly what keeps you turning pages.
I just finished these chapters and I need a minute because the pacing is absolutely relentless. Let me trace the structure here because it's impressive. We start with Ying Zhu at a café, calmly browsing memory cards like he's shopping for groceries. It's almost mundane. He tests them, makes a purchase, asks about more. The scene is quiet, controlled, almost boring. And then — Zheng Yun calls. The attack. The escalation. "Kill him." Two words that change everything. Then we cut to the memory reading, which is longer and more immersive, giving us this intimate glimpse into Ying Zhu's past. It's a slower, more sensual scene that contrasts sharply with the violence that follows. And then — Cen Xie attacks. Rear-end collisions, shootings, explosions. The plot accelerates so fast. Ying Zhu's response? He buys a missile. A literal missile. And blows up an entire building. The escalation from "I'm browsing memory cards" to "I have a missile strike on my to-do list" is so extreme that it's almost comedic, but it works because the story treats it with complete seriousness. "The lives of ants are still lives. Some of them weren't even twenty yet." Cen Xie's line about the people he lost is interesting because it shows he's not just a cartoon villain. He's grieving his own people, and that grief is what drives his retaliation. The author doesn't let us forget that every violent act has human costs on both sides. The warehouse scene is where the pacing gets really interesting. It's long, deliberate, almost uncomfortable in its length. We watch every detail — the clothing changes, the poses, the veil. The author makes us sit with this humiliation, and that's a deliberate pacing choice. It's supposed to feel agonizing. And then just when you think it can't get more tense, Cen Xie freezes at the veil moment, and the whole energy shifts. The chapter ends with Ying Zhu back at his apartment, about to read another memory, while Zheng Yun is torturing Cen Xie over a shredder. Two parallel threads of violence and desperation running simultaneously. The structure is tight, the transitions are sharp, and I couldn't put it down.
This book is underrated, such a good story but get low views, how lolThe fast pace is just really good many small event happens one by one. I’ll recommend my friend to read it
This novel is my first attempt at writing, and I’m still learning a lot along the way. So, when you start reading, please be kind. If something feels off, whether it's a typo or a part that doesn’t meet your expectations, I’d appreciate calm and constructive feedback. But please, take the time to read a few chapters before making judgments. If you enjoy it, feel free to continue; if not, there's no need to be harsh—just set it aside and explore other stories. I’d be grateful if you could leave supportive comments, even if you don't like something. Your encouragement means a lot to me, and I truly appreciate your support. Also, please note that the story will progress slowly. If you’re someone who enjoys fast-paced fighting or constant upgrades, I’m not sure if this one will be to your taste. However, if you're still interested and want to give it a try, feel free to do so—I’d be happy to have you along for the journey.
