Can we just take a moment to appreciate how well-written the dialogue is in these chapters? Because I am not okay with how good it is. Let me start with Du Lang—his voice is immediately recognizable. He's enthusiastic, a bit dramatic, and completely unfiltered. "Brother Shen—what is that? It smells incredible!" and "So you don't have to stay in the dormitories? You can just walk home every day after class?" This is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and isn't afraid to show emotion. When he starts crying about not having to live in dorms? That's not acting, that's genuine vulnerability from someone who's clearly missed home. Then there's Shen Qingsong, whose dialogue is all calculated charm. He never reveals too much, always keeps a slight smile, and knows exactly what to say to close a deal. "Is there something you'd like me to bring back for you?"—said with that "faint, knowing smile"—this is a guy who's already three steps ahead of everyone else. His dialogue is economical, precise, and always serves a purpose. Mingtang's voice is the warmest of the bunch. She teases, she worries, she lies gently to protect feelings. "Then you'd better remember how good I am" and "Wait till I get back—I'll bring you more silver!" These lines feel like they come from a real sister who loves her brother but isn't going to let him forget who's really running the show. And Father Shen! Oh, Father Shen is a gift. His dialogue is full of comic timing—"Is he going there to study or to eat?! The Academy gives five liang of rice and two dishes at midday—does he have the appetite of an ox?!" followed by him immediately asking for his own sandwich. The way he huffs and puffs and then softens when Mingtang presses the food into his hands—this is a father who wants to be taken seriously but can't resist good food. Perfectly realized character in just a few lines of dialogue.
I've been thinking about the symbolism of the HEART in these chapters and it's everywhere. Yun Shu's literal heart is failing, but her emotional heart is also something she's struggling with. She doesn't trust Shi Muchuan. She doesn't open up about why she was at that restaurant. She's been carrying burdens alone her whole life—first her illness, then her financial struggles, now this experimental surgery decision. The heart monitor becomes this recurring motif: its beeping marks the tension, its flatlining marks the danger, its stabilization marks the temporary relief. When Shi Muchuan checks her pulse and finds it 'very weak,' he frowns—not just as a doctor assessing a patient, but as a person who has started to CARE. The experimental surgery itself is symbolic: it's a risky, uncertain path that offers hope but no guarantees. Just like trust. Just like relationships. Yun Shu is being asked to trust someone with her life, literally and figuratively, and she's terrified. The author keeps returning to the image of her pale face, her weak pulse, her trembling eyelashes—every detail reinforcing that her heart, in every sense of the word, is the center of this story.
Let's talk about Cui Lie's dialogue because this man is absolutely vile and the author writes him perfectly. "What a pity, to be widowed so young. How about you follow me instead?" — said while standing over a dead man's body with a bloody sword. I literally screamed at my phone. This man has no self-awareness whatsoever. He thinks he's offering Cheng Qiqi a favor. A FAVOR. Like she should be grateful he's not just killing her on the spot. And his response to Liu Suyi calling him out: "A criminal who defied imperial orders and embezzled military funds—what right does he have to be compared to me?" Bro. Your sword is covered in blood. Your armor is gleaming. You just stabbed a dead man's abdomen. You are literally demonstrating why he shouldn't be compared to you, and you have no idea. The dialogue between Lin Huilan and Liu Suyi is also peak. Lin Huilan's line about adopting a grandson through Jin Yanzhi—"Why don't you wait until Yanzhi has a son and adopt one as your grandson?"—this is such a specific, vicious kind of cruelty. She's not just attacking Liu Suyi's grief, she's attacking the entire lineage, the future, the legacy. And then she charges at Liu Suyi like a feral cat. The dialogue here is so natural, you can hear these women's voices clearly. Cheng Qiqi's dialogue is my favorite though. She's calm, precise, and cuts through everyone's nonsense. When she tells Cui Lie: "Sir, you are carrying out the imperial decree to confiscate the family property. Did it say you could administer private punishment?" — this is a woman who is terrified but refuses to show it. She uses his own authority against him. Smart. So smart. The jailer shouting "No fighting!" while Lin Huilan is literally charging at someone is such a perfect comedic beat in the middle of all this tension. It's the author winking at us, I swear. One thing I want to flag: the dialogue feels very distinct per character. Lin Huilan sounds shrill and desperate. Liu Suyi sounds dignified even when breaking down. Cheng Qiqi sounds grounded and sharp. Cui Lie sounds smug and unhinged. I can tell who's speaking without looking at the tags. That's good writing, friends.
Nice. The book with the perfect plot, got hooked on this instantly.
Reading this book is a great choice if you enjoy the suspense and thriller genres. Each scene has been meticulously detailed by the author. You should give it a shot if you want to battle your inner demons and embrace the past instead of ignoring it.
I really like the novel overall, but man you gotta work on your writing skill.I know this is your first book, but yeah its pretty decent and worth a read because of its uniqueness.xD

Author here with a shameless review, hope you all enjoy this one, things to note though is: A large harem not limited to humankind, good smut scenes(for the love of everything good please don't read in public) and, well, the mc being quite the brutal killer every now and then.
i guess i should review my story to push it out a bit. im just going to say some random stuff like i am now to get 140 words in and make it a valid review. anyway if you're reading this, the story is about the main character disobeying the world he lives in and going berserk many times over, leading him to gain the king's attention and become wanted. later on it becomes more apocalyptic, well how i've planned it so far anyway. you'll just have to read to find out. Woah, this is way more than 140 words, i'll post it now
