"Arifureta: Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou, unfortunately, fails to maintain the high standard and promise showcased in its initial volume. The inconsistent portrayal of the main character grated on my nerves. Initially, it appeared as an intriguing dark fantasy with a wronged hero, but the narrative shifted towards a convoluted tale of a moody teenager unsure of his desires, which left much to be desired."
Dudes a bore
Not in my experience(?) people usually have an inclination as to who they like as early as they begin to form memories and if they have a realisation after the fact it’s usually just repressed or they haven’t met anyone of the same gender they like yet (which would be them having a preference for the opposite gender). Even if you don’t take genetics into account, they say that the base personality of someone is formed within the first 6 weeks of birth, so if upbringing did have an effect on your sexuality it would be unconscious and within that time period; but even then i doubt it. After taking all that into account i really don’t see how media would have an effect on who you like, especially when gay people watch straight romances in media since they’re born but…. They still stay gay. It would be the same in reverse.
Well I was planning on rereading but there was just too much
New Good stuff so decided to at least visit once in a while
Any romance?
You people are into some nasty sht XD
All the reviews are accurate, yet I deducted one star because the first part of the book was exceptional. It showcased cleverness, political intrigue, and I must admit, I found Pei Zheng (the male lead, ML) intriguing despite his flaws. He can be possessive, selfish, and even abusive towards the main character (MC), while being cold and distant with others. His redeeming qualities are scarce (though more are present in the manga adaptation).
The MC's childhood brain injury contributes to his perceived slowness, but it doesn't justify his passive behavior. However, I chose to overlook this aspect since Pei Zheng's character ultimately piqued my interest.
Unfortunately, the story begins to decline when Shen Huan enters the scene, despite her initial appeal as a non-horrible female character. While Shen Huan herself is decent, the plot loses its momentum and becomes repetitive, which spoils the overall experience.
I awarded this novel a rating of 2 out of 5. Let me clarify that I am not against BL (boys' love) stories; in fact, I'm an avid reader of yaoi novels. After finishing "The Legendary Master's Wife," I sought more in that genre.
Positive aspects include the quick progression of intimacy and engaging initial chapters, which set a promising tone.
However, there are significant drawbacks. The main characters abruptly change their behavior, making their relationship development feel forced. The romantic scenes lack depth and authenticity, and most importantly, there's a glaring absence of sexual tension or attraction, which is crucial for the genre. From around chapter 17, it seems as though the author regresses to a more adolescent writing style, focusing excessively on passionate kisses. I reluctantly continued until then, but looking back, I regret my decision. The main character earns a mere ⅕ for inconsistency, while side characters are virtually non-existent.
The world-building fares poorly, offering nothing new or innovative, which is why I give it a 0 out of 5. It's hard to make a fair judgment with just one volume read, but for those seeking quality yaoi or shounen ai, I'd recommend "The Legendary Master's Wife" or "True Star" instead.
I gave it ⅖ simply because it's a yaoi novel, despite its shortcomings.
I initially discovered and read this story in a manga, and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it hasn't been continued, which is why I'm sharing my thoughts here. Honestly, the main character (MC) can be quite annoying at times – he's stubborn, often reckless, and constantly complains about boredom. He's also easily manipulated. However, what I appreciate is his intelligence from his modern background, which he ingeniously utilizes in the era he finds himself in to outsmart foes.
As for the male lead (ML), I have nothing negative to say; he's deeply in love with the MC and always stands by their side, ready to protect them. The story has a well-paced progression, without feeling rushed, and the plot is clearly explained. Character development is solid, too. Of course, whether you'll enjoy certain aspects may depend on personal preferences. If you're looking for a longer, engaging read, I definitely recommend giving this a try.
Myst, Might, Mayhem does this novel available at light novel
Well it had potential, but the group of girls ruined it. It is also disappointing that it isn't an actual loner.
spoilers-
they actively get in his way even though they owe him their lives.
they spy on him with the ex-dungeon emperor while masturbating, super gross. Especially since they scold him for looking at any of the girls.
they ruin the story, so I ended up dropping it. It had a ton of potential and was really good, but I got tired of them.
