I just finished reading these chapters and I need a minute because the pacing is actually really masterful and I want to unpack why. The story doesn't rely on big dramatic events to keep you hooked. It relies on micro-tensions — the kind that build slowly and then suddenly you realize you've been holding your breath for three pages. Let me give you an example: Song Zhiyao asks to see Suxin. Lan Xin kneels and pleads on Suxin's behalf. Song Zhiyao insists. Lan Xin says yes. That's it. No drama, no confrontation. But underneath it all, there's this current of guilt and regret from Song Zhiyao, and the reader can feel her realizing — too late — that the person who possessed her body used her servants as pawns. The pacing here is deliberate. The author lets the silence do the work. Then immediately after, Lu Yanzhi leaves the courtyard and the scene shifts to him ordering Cang Feng to investigate Master Juewu. Quick cut. No transition words, no "meanwhile." Just — he's gone, and now we're following him. This kind of scene economy keeps the narrative moving without feeling rushed. And then the dowry list scene. Song Zhiyao sends it. Lu Jinyu receives it. Lin Guan Guan manipulates him. He comes to confront her. All of this happens in a relatively compact space, and yet each beat lands. The author doesn't over-explain Lu Jinyu's thought process — we see it through his reactions, through the list falling to the floor, through the two characters on the back that change everything. What I appreciate most is that the author trusts the reader. There's no hand-holding. No "as you know, Bob" exposition. Just scenes that unfold and let the subtext do the heavy lifting. The result is a story that feels tight and efficient, where nothing is wasted and every silence carries weight.
Okay I need to talk about the absolute chaos that is Cheng Cheng calling the police because his best friend bought dog slippers. Like. WHAT. Cen Miao says 'my shoes weren't broken but I bought new ones—dog slippers' and Cheng Cheng's brain just short-circuits into emergency mode. The man literally rides over to the residential area, gets no answer, calls the police, and then the police show up at Qin Zelin's VILLA at night because apparently that's a thing that happens in this universe. The plot twist here isn't some dramatic revelation—it's the sheer absurdity of the misunderstanding. Cen Miao half-asleep, hugging a pillow, looks at Qin Zelin and goes 'I'm Cen Miao, and he's the one I... married.' And the Bodyguard's entire worldview EXPLODES. I literally screamed reading that scene. The mental image he has of their aloof boss being the 'little wife' while Cen Miao is the dominant one? 'Baby~ you smell so good~' I am dead. Absolutely deceased. But beneath the comedy, the plot is doing something clever—it's establishing a contractual marriage that's supposed to be cold and transactional, but every single interaction keeps undermining that premise. Qin Zelin buying ALL the beef jerky instead of just one bag, forcing Cen Miao to eat vegetables then secretly ordering more cheese, the whole 'sharing a blanket, sooner or later' chapter title that Old Lin thinks is romantic destiny when it's literally just about plumbing being broken. The plot builds this slow-burn tension where everyone—including the readers—can see where this is going even though the characters themselves are completely oblivious. And that ending with Cen Miao loosening his collar and Qin Zelin's strained 'what are you doing?'—the plot is absolutely ratcheting up the romantic tension while pretending nothing is happening. It's delicious.

An unusual story with a lot of complicated relationships and emotions. The thin line between one's necessity and desire hangs precariously between two people who tries not to breech the line but keeps redrawing the same line to their convenience eventually confused as to where they actually stand. The author's written the sexual acts balancing dangerously between consensual and forced. There's twists in the plot making us want more.I hate and at the same time empathize with Adrian. He makes me want to kill and cry for him at the same time. Though Christine's situation is pitiable she's rather selfish and seems insensitive. It's a uniquely written story with BDSM elements but it's not for faint hearts. It's a dark romance so those who's looking for something sweet and colorful, read at your own risk. I've read all the chapters so far and I'm waiting for more updates. Please increase the number chapters updated per day.
