Okay so let me just say—this plot has some serious twists and I am HERE for it. The whole setup starts with Wushuang getting set up, right? She's supposed to deliver food, gets lost, and somehow stumbles into Prince Gongqing's bedchamber. Classic meet-cute but make it terrifying. She slaps him, bites his arm, and escapes—which honestly is the most Wushuang thing ever. I love a woman who fights her way out. But then the plot thickens. The next day she gets assigned to serve him directly, and at first I thought this was just punishment, right? Like, he's torturing her for the slap. But no—she's grinding ink, stealing his pastries, and living her best life while he's just... watching? Let me tell you, the pastry-stealing subplot is what made me laugh out loud. She's sneaking bites while he pretends not to notice. That's not revenge, that's something else entirely. Then BAM—assassination attempt. The servant drops his act, attacks him, black-clad figures appear out of nowhere. And Wushuang, of all people, pushes him out of the way and gets wounded. The prince's reaction? Bloodshot eyes, hoarse voice screaming for the imperial physician. That's not the Grim Reaper of the court showing concern for nothing. That's the moment everything shifts. And then there's the meta-layer with Ye Yuwu and Zhang Ruyan—the actual author of this story within the story. The huaben ending with 'to be continued' had me literally sighing out loud. The readers in the courtyard were just as desperate as I was. Who is Wuming? What happens next? The plot doesn't just move forward, it spirals deeper and deeper.
The way this section moves between spaces is so deliberate and revealing. We start in a hospital ward—sterile, confined, Xia Nanxing recovering from a fainting spell that's as much emotional as physical. The doctor's orders to rest, the bodyguard A Jin slipping in stealthily, the quiet intensity of planning a ten-billion-yuan inheritance scheme from a hospital bed. It's a surprisingly intimate setting for what is essentially a power play. Then we cut to Xia Nanxing's conversation with her father, which takes place entirely through text notifications and phone calls. The wealth is displayed through transactions—twenty million yuan appearing like magic, designer collections materializing at her door. Money as love language, money as control, money as the only vocabulary this father-daughter relationship has. And then the nightclub scene explodes onto the page with these eight male models lined up like offerings. The description is almost theatrical—"peach-blossom eyes, a waist like a greyhound's," "adorable little sweetheart, sugary and comforting," "passionate and unrestrained, with a broad chest." It reads like a menu, and that's the point. Xia Nanxing is shopping for companionship the way her father shops for her affection. The social hierarchy of the elite school is sketched in briefly but effectively—ninety-nine percent wealthy or noble, social standings glaringly obvious, scholarship students like Lu Huaijin existing in a different stratum. This world feels lived-in and cruel, where your value is determined by your family name and your beauty is both armor and currency. The hospital-to-club trajectory mirrors Xia Nanxing's own journey: confined and vulnerable one moment, surrounded by adoring attention the next, but fundamentally alone in both spaces.
Okay, can we talk about how the stakes are RISING in every single scene? Like, the author is playing 4D chess with tension and I am HERE for it. Let's start with the study scene. Luo Ran is being interrogated by Chu Jin about whether she wants to be a concubine. On the surface, this is just a conversation. But the stakes? Her entire future. If she says the wrong thing, she could end up trapped in a household where she's suppressed, controlled, humiliated. She's a widow with a child, no family, no money. She has NOTHING. And Chu Jin is the gatekeeper to everything she could want or everything she could lose. But then there's the UNDERLYING conflict—Chu Jin himself. He's clearly attracted to her. The text literally says he's lying awake at night thinking about her, that he's 'like a trapped beast suppressing something.' So there's this internal conflict where he's trying to be the cold, controlled master while simultaneously being consumed by desire. And that's dangerous—for both of them. If he loses control, if he acts on his feelings, everything changes. Her position, his reputation, the household dynamics. And then Chu Chengfeng bursts in. Now there's a whole other layer of conflict. He's clearly interested in Luo Ran, and Chu Jin's protective reaction is obvious. But Chu Chengfeng is the Second Master—his father's son. This creates a rivalry, a tension that could explode at any moment. The bath scene is the culmination of all this built-up tension. Luo Ran is already vulnerable—she's a widow, alone, dependent on this household for survival. She falls into the bath with the man who holds her fate in his hands. The physical danger (scalding water, choking) mirrors the emotional danger (desire, power imbalance, potential scandal). And the stakes keep climbing. If anyone finds out about this encounter? Her reputation is destroyed. His reputation is damaged. The household is thrown into chaos. And yet—they don't pull apart. He keeps holding her. She keeps sitting on his lap. The tension is unbearable. What I love is that the author never lets up. Every scene raises the stakes, every interaction adds new layers of conflict, and there's no relief in sight. I'm on the edge of my seat the entire time, waiting for something to break.
Can we just talk about how good this author's dialogue is because I am HERE for it. The exchange between Shen Xiyue and Murong Xuan when he's carrying her out of that room is absolutely chef's kiss: "Your Highness, no! Put me down quickly. You're too frail, you can't carry me..." "Don't you know whether I'm capable or not?" I literally laughed out loud. The man just got drugged and nearly lost control on their wedding night and his PRIDE is wounded because she questioned his manliness. The sour expression he wears while being forced to recall his "less-than-stellar performance" is comedic gold. And then there's Gu Zhilan's dialogue when she's torturing Shen Xiyue to death—"I am a woman of destiny who transmigrated here. Who told you to compete with me?" The casual entitlement in that line is absolutely vile and the author writes it perfectly. She's not even pretending to be remorseful. She just straight-up says her victims are stepping stones and dying for her is an HONOR. The way she lists her skills—making salt, refining sugar, steelmaking—like she's reading a grocery list while describing the destruction of an innocent family. Chilling. The banquet guests' dialogue is also great for worldbuilding. "A moment of the wedding night is worth a thousand pieces of gold. Let's stop with the pleasantries. Quick, quick, Heir, enter the bridal chamber!" It's exactly the kind of boisterous, slightly crude wedding banter you'd hear, and it makes the horror inside the room feel even more isolating. Shuangye the maid is another highlight—naturally sociable, completely unaware of the tension, offering to prepare ointment for "discomfort" while Shen Xiyue is internally screaming. The contrast between Shuangye's cheerful innocence and Shen Xiyue's trauma is both funny and heartbreaking.
Okay so let me just say this: the opening hook is absolutely genius. You have this girl who's literally just walking dogs for extra cash, minding her own business, and some random old man shows up claiming to be a god. And her immediate reaction? She calls the police. Not 'oh my god help me' but 'let me call the cops on this nutjob.' I love it. It's so grounded, so real. We've all dealt with weirdos on the street. But then the actual invasion happens and she's like 'oh. Oh no. I should probably go find that guy.' The way the plot pivots from mundane dog-walking life to 'aliens are destroying the solar system' in like two chapters is wild. And the twist where she accidentally repels the entire alien fleet by inheriting the Divine Seat? Chef's kiss. She didn't even know how to USE it. She just got zapped and BOOM, everyone disappears. The chapter structure is also really smart - Chapter 1 sets up the premise, Chapter 2 delivers the inheritance and the accidental save, and Chapter 3 immediately undercuts the victory by showing the global command centers in full despair mode. The aliens aren't gone forever, they're just... not here right now. And those planets? Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars all destroyed. The stakes just went from 'save Earth' to 'Earth might be next.' That's a great escalation. One thing that's bothering me though - the old man literally says 'go find someone named Yuan Chen in the Star Domain' and then dies before explaining anything. Classic information gap technique. I'm invested now, I need to know what the hell the Star Domain is and who Yuan Chen is. Also, why is Su Xi the only one who inherited the bloodline? That's clearly going to be a major plot point.
Nice story??.......... Can't wait for more chapter
