I need to talk about Jiang Xinhe because this woman is GONE but she is EVERYWHERE in this text. She's been dead since Chapter 1, literally a corpse in Chen Jue's memory, and yet she's the gravitational center of the entire narrative. How does an author do that? How do you make a character who appears only in flashbacks and memories feel more present than someone actually in the scene? The key is in what Chen Jue remembers about her. She recited Tang and Song poetry while dying. She compared her sacrifice to a cat that likes fish but won't go into water, a fish that likes earthworms but can't reach land. "All things in this world are in a process of possessing while losing, choosing while abandoning." This is a woman who understood her own death and chose it anyway. That's not desperation—that's philosophy. And Chen Jue? The man who supposedly has no emotions, who was called a "cold-blooded butcher" by the very family he tried to save, breaks down crying over a woman he barely knew. Not because he loved her romantically—I don't think that's it at all—but because she saw something in him that no one else did. She called him "Doctor Chen" with a smile and asked him to save her child. She trusted him with her last breath. The sibling bond between Jiang Xinhe and her brother is also worth noting. He's the one who pushes Chen Jue down the stairs, yes, but the text tells us she "often mentioned" him and they had a very strong bond. He's not just a rage-monster; he's a brother who loved his sister enough to destroy the man he blamed for her death. That complexity makes the conflict so much more painful.
I need to talk about Li Niang because this woman walked in and immediately stole the scene. While everyone else in this story is either prejudiced against Bai Qianqian or trying to take advantage of her, Li Niang just... sees her. She tastes the candy, negotiates fairly, offers a partnership, AND arranges free transportation home. The line that got me was when she says she'll send a carriage to pick up the goods every three days — that's not just business savvy, that's genuine investment in someone the village has been tearing apart. And the backstory drop about her being a widow running a shop with a sickly mother-in-law and kids? Chef's kiss. She understands what it means to have to hustle. Meanwhile, Zhou Dafu is this fascinating villain who isn't even trying to be villainous in a dramatic way — he's just casually cruel. His apprentice asks a reasonable question about buying the recipe and Zhou Dafu dismisses it with this whole speech about how 'country fare is only prized by commoners.' But then the narration tells us he's already failed to replicate the cake. The gap between his arrogance and his actual competence is hilarious and terrifying. And Old Madam Zhao — oh man. She goes from bragging to her neighbors that her third son is coming home to getting absolutely dismantled in front of everyone by a carriage ride that belongs to someone else. The humiliation on her face was almost palpable. I want to know what this does to her relationship with Bai Qianqian going forward. She's already hostile, but this public embarrassment? That's a wound that won't heal quietly.
Let me just lay out the stakes because they are genuinely high and the author is doing a great job of making you feel it. Xie Yushu has: zero money (seven coppers after breakfast), no family in the village, no home worth stealing from, a reputation that's been dragged through the mud by a fabricated gambling scandal, and people like the Du family who actively want her to stay down. And she's walking into a confrontation with Du Yinghua—the person who got her fired and withheld three months of wages—armed with literally nothing but her wits and that teacup. What makes this work so well is that the author doesn't oversell the danger. There's no dramatic music, no inner monologue about how terrifying this is. Xie Yushu is just... calm. She sits down, she sips tea, she asks why she was fired. But the reader knows what's at stake. If she fails here, she has no fallback. No wages means no food, no food means she's truly destitute in a place where everyone already sees her as a fallen woman. The villagers gossiping about her as a potential bride for Maidong's son isn't a romantic subplot—it's a threat. She's being assessed like livestock, and if she can't prove her worth independently, that's essentially her only "option" in their eyes. The suspense is built through restraint. The author doesn't tell us Xie Yushu is nervous. She tells us Xie Yushu is cleaning a teacup with her sleeve, or that she's thinking about how much she hates boiled eggs. These tiny details of normalcy amid a high-stakes situation are what make the tension work. I'm already invested in whether she gets her money back, and I have a feeling Du Yinghua is not going to make this easy.

Hello! I'm Austin a fan from Turkey! I must say I am really In love with this book. I'm only currently on chapter 7 and woah I hope the chapters ahead are as good!!! I will leave another review when I'm done with the first volume!
It's a well written novel and the characters are interesting and demonstrate distinct personalities, they are not like robots. The premise of a newborn leaves you wanting more and more and the expectation of evolution keeps us hooked every second. I highly recommend this novel.
I'm really enjoying this story, it's got comedy in it, and sultry teasing between some of the characters, with really great choreographed action scenes.I have snorted at a lot of silly things written here, and also been on edge waiting for what happens next on the action side of things. The story is full of interesting characters like a very lovable giant crab that says so much with such little vocabulary. The hero, which the crab steals the show, but he's awesome too with his quips and banter between everyone including his great friendship with his crab. There are other really fun characters but I don't want to spoil it, but their relationship is something else! The writer does an amazing job updating daily and sometimes you even get 2 or 3 chapters that day which are great reads. Give it a try!

Zijian_Laith delivers a captivating dark fantasy experience with Rearing Demons. The writing is immersive, the world-building rich, and the atmosphere gripping. The characters are well-developed, with layered motivations that add depth to the narrative. The novel balances intense action with thought-provoking themes, making it a compelling read for fans of dark and complex storytelling. Definitely worth checking out!
Clearly, a very gore book. I love it. When I read the title I genuinely thought he would be like taking demons and using them for servant stuff, but this book showed he REALLY meant rearing (wait not that kind)Anyways, this author does have fantastic writing, excited to see more. Yur, you psycho!!!
