Okay so this section is wild. Cao Yang gets saved from being pimped out, they both end up factory workers, he gets bullied by the supervisor, FLIPS OUT, grabs the guy by the throat, gets fired AGAIN, then Li Yan quits too, goes back to the nightclub, he spots a slot machine scheme, tries to pitch it to her, she shuts it down, and then—BAM—some guy gets hacked to death right in front of them by the Sichuan Gang. What is this, a rollercoaster designed by sadists? The plot structure here is basically relentless escalation. Every time Cao Yang thinks he's found a path, the universe slaps him down. First the nightclub manager tries to groom him, then the factory supervisor targets him, then he gets fired for defending himself, then he almost invests in illegal gambling, then witnesses a murder. The story doesn't let up for a single breath. But what I love is how the author connects these events. The supervisor bullying Cao Yang wasn't random—it was retaliation against Li Yan for rejecting him. That's a proper cause-and-effect chain. And the slot machine idea? It flows naturally from Cao Yang's character. He's street-smart enough to spot opportunity but naive enough to not understand the danger. The narrative keeps rewarding attention. The murder scene at the end is a masterclass in tension. Six men with machetes, the victim running, the casual way they finish him and stroll off joking. And that blond thug whistling at Li Yan? Chilling. The author drops this like it's nothing, but it establishes the entire power structure of this world in one paragraph. I need to know what happens next.
The author really knows how to paint a scene without overdoing it. The state-run supermarket description is a perfect example — four large characters on the signboard, two stone lions beneath it, the whole building dedicated to selling clothes. Even by later standards, the structure was impressive. But it's the details that make it breathe: the salesclerk who gets momentarily dazzled by Xu Xiaoyue's face, then slumps back down after judging her clothes. That's such a specific, accurate texture of the era. Customer service didn't exist like that. You had to read the clerk's mood. It's a small detail but it drops you right into 1970s Beijing. The Yan family compound itself feels lived-in. Liu Ye's hospital work keeping her busy. The bunk beds in the shared room. The fabric ration coupons — a whole economic system embedded in daily life. Even the bus ride to the supermarket, the variety of Lenin suits and shirts that are described as "pitifully monotonous" by modern standards but were considered stylish then. These aren't decorative details; they're the bones of the world. And the train station scene — two exits, Xiaoyue waiting, Yan Shuli never showing up. The geography of that space matters because it enables the entire lie. The hospital visit with IV drips, the seven o'clock return, the staircase corner where Xiaoyue watches everything unfold. Every location serves the story. The bathroom with the open door where Zheng Jiaojiao spies on the coat. The supermarket floor where Zheng Jiaojiao suggests splitting up — probably to create a private moment with Yan Shuli. The author isn't just describing places; she's using them as stages for conflict.
Undoubtedly, Fu Chen possessed an astonishing need for control.
Top Class! Is all that needs to be said. Best Football related novel I’ve read in while.
"Nightmare Anthology: True Chills and Twisted Legends" is a spine-tingling collection that masterfully blends folklore, urban legends, and real-life horrors into a chilling tapestry of fear. Each story grips you with vivid descriptions, unpredictable twists, and an atmosphere so haunting that it lingers long after you've closed the book.

Really awesome book! The MC is slightly naive but not dumb. It’s a little refreshing since he does have some personality quirks. Overall, a really engaging read. Kudos!
