I need to process what just happened because my hands are literally shaking. Up until the alley scene, the stakes in this story felt relatively contained. Sure, there was workplace tension with the supermarket, social maneuvering with the Yan family, the usual transmigration-survival anxiety. But it was all... manageable. Contained. The kind of conflict you can navigate with enough cleverness and preparation. Then Wang Hao appears and everything changes. The stakes just went from "will I survive socially" to "will I survive physically." That is a massive escalation and the author handles it with brutal efficiency. Wang Hao isn't some cartoon villain — he's terrifyingly real. His dialogue, his entitlement, his belief that Xu Xiaoyue is "refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit" — he genuinely believes he has a right to her body. That's not dramatic exaggeration, that's the kind of mindset that exists in the real world, and it makes the scene so much more disturbing. What I love is how Xu Xiaoyue responds. She doesn't just cry and wait to be saved. She slaps him. She kicks him. When he grabs her, she goes still — not in surrender, but in calculation. She's waiting for an opening. And when she gets it, she takes it with everything she has. The fact that she then storms forward and KICKS him while he's already down? That's not just survival instinct. That's rage. That's her saying: you will not touch me. And Yan Ye's entrance — yes, it's dramatic, yes, it's convenient — but it doesn't undermine the scene. Because the rescue isn't the point. The point is that Xu Xiaoyue survived. She fought back. She's still standing. Everything after that — the back-carry, the wound treatment, the charged silence between them — that's the aftermath of her victory, not his.
This chapter is fundamentally about the tension between debt and genuine connection, and it keeps circling back to this question: what do we owe each other, and where does obligation end and love begin? Qingqing literally frames her entire relationship with Lin Heng as repayment. 'That's how I was able to save you... to repay what I owed you.' But Lin Heng's reaction—his anger, his pain—comes from the fact that he doesn't want to be someone's debt. He wants to be chosen, not repaid. The indenture papers that start this whole conflict are a physical symbol of exactly this tension: a document that reduces human relationships to transactions. Then there's the child. 'If only we had a child too...' Qingqing's whisper about wanting a family isn't just romantic—it's symbolic of her desire to build something permanent, something that can't be undone by past mistakes or documents. A child represents a future that exists outside of debt and obligation. And the money—forty-two taels of silver that she packs into thirty taels for him to leave with—that's the ultimate transaction. She's trying to buy her way out of guilt, to settle the account. But love isn't a ledger. The author keeps returning to this motif of counting and weighing and measuring, and each time it lands differently. First it's counting money joyfully, then counting up reasons to leave, then counting the days until her period arrives. The numbers tell the real story.

Yo, everyone, Akev here✋.Giving myself a 5-star review because the site allows it??.So, this was the first book that I wrote in English, I think language gets better over time but I can't promise there won't be similar cringy dialogue you see in the first chapter, regardless, I think it's an interesting read, and that you should try giving it a shot?.I am posting this at the same time as I am writing Everlasting War: The Heir of Darkness which I do think will turn out as a considerably better book but this one has its charms. What is this book about? It is the story of Nero, a guy devoid of emotions. He is a monster hunter with a mysterious boss who talks to him through magical marbles. I have to say it was incredibly hard to make him interesting in any way without breaking the "no emotion" thing the way the writers usually do with such characters?, but I think I succeeded. The problem is that rather than being a person born in such a way or being a typical sociopath he has his emotions taken from him so he literally can't feel them, it's not just the lack of empathy you would usually see or use to explain why the initial statement is still true. What you can expect from him is to have a whole lot of disguises and acts, and, of course, to be completely ruthless as he completes one job after the other while slowly working towards his overarching goal.If you like horror or dark fantasy, I think you will enjoy his story.Buay?
Kinda love the story :)
if you drop this then you are............?
Author, you ended my Webnovel drought. I was reading only translations but when I found this, I knew I'd be losing out on a gem if I didn't read it. ( In Rhysand's words )Maril is an amazing fl character, free spirit but matured too. Might appear contrasting but that's her beauty. Up to now I kept laughing in every chapter, her inner monologues are my favourite.I could say Rhysand is going fast but then I realised, he is not. I like slow burn but if Rhysand didn't do what he did, I know he won't meet her anytime soon. Rhysand also is being shown as a puppy but I'm excited to see his dark side. I hope this book becomes more and more famous as it deserves. The writing is easy to understand and does not use much difficult vocabulary. However, it is still different from other books. To see the uniqueness one must read and this is a must read book!!!!!!!!!
The book is phenomenal so far; be it mystery, thrill and the tormenting romance ,one will be able to see themselves in the character of Layla ?. I'm really excited for it . Let's see how this unfolds.
Solid story. Solid characters...after a while. I did not initially like the MC, but he starts to became proactive later and his potential also gets so much better.
Author here! I won’t add too much to this one or turn it into something weird ahh... sci-fi like Common Sense Hijack System ( My previous book ). That would just mess things up. XD
