The pacing in these chapters is actually insane when you think about it. We go from a relatively chill black market shopping trip in Chapter 9 to a full-blown countdown timer by Chapter 10, and I wasn't ready for that whiplash. Chapter 9 is basically a setup chapter—Qin Xiaoran stocking up, meeting Sister Liu, building her supplies. It's methodical, almost meditative. You get the sense of her preparing, planning, getting ready for the storm. The dialogue with Sister Liu is warm, almost cozy. There's a moment where Qin Xiaoran thanks her and leaves 'in good spirits, clutching her remaining thirty yuan.' That thirty yuan feels like the calm before everything explodes. Then Chapter 10 hits like a truck. Wang Wenbin drops the bomb: 'We'll have news within a week.' ONE WEEK. The narrative literally slows down at that moment—'The thought left her briefly overwhelmed with despair.' The author gives us that beat of vulnerability before Qin Xiaoran steadies herself. That's skilled pacing. She doesn't let the panic linger, but she lets you feel it. And Chapter 11? It's this weird breathing room. She's walking, dealing with Wang Xiaoyi, going to a restaurant. But underneath all of it, that deadline is ticking. Every scene has this low hum of urgency. Even the state-run restaurant ordering has weight now—she's not just buying food, she's buying time, resources, survival. The chapter breaks are also doing heavy lifting. Each one ends on a note that makes you want to keep going. Chapter 9 ends with her leaving happy. Chapter 10 ends with Wang Xiaoyi running after her. Chapter 11 cuts off mid-scene at the restaurant. Classic cliffhanger energy.
Let me just say this: Song Tingzhou is the most fascinating character in this entire passage, and I'm not even sure I'm saying that as a compliment yet. The moment he says "Let's stay here first and then talk about it" after going through this whole performance of pushing Meng Wan away? That's when I knew. He deliberately scared him. He played the cold, unreasonable gatekeeper, watched Meng Wan actually try to walk out the door, and then casually reeled him back in like a fish on a line. The narrator even calls him out directly: "he's such a repressed pervert, deliberately trying to scare him." And honestly? It's kind of brilliant manipulation. Song Tingzhou knows exactly what he's doing. But here's what gets me — when he tells his mother, "If we have to get married, it should be him," he says it so calmly. No hesitation. No romantic confession. Just a statement of fact, as if he's already decided Meng Wan will never leave his side. The possessiveness is there from the very first moment: "from the first moment he saw Meng Wan, he never intended to let him go." And then there's Chang Jinhua, the mother. She's the real MVP of this household. She reads the situation instantly, she covers for them with the village gossip, she buys the pork and renders the fat and hides an egg for Meng Wan when her son is already gone. She knows what she's doing — she bought him to be Tingzhou's wife, and she's making sure the whole village plays along. The scene where she wraps Meng Wan's face in cloth before going to market, explaining it's because of 'hooligans,' while simultaneously teaching him to call her Sixth Aunt — that's a mother who is protecting her son's secret while also protecting Meng Wan himself. The power dynamic between these three is so layered. Tingzhou holds the social power, Chang Jinhua holds the emotional and practical power, and Meng Wan — well, he's the one who has nothing. No status, no family, no money. And yet, he's the one they're both orbiting around. That's not nothing. I keep thinking about that moment when Meng Wan cries into his food and swallows the tears with his rice. Not because it's sad — though it is — but because it's the first time anyone has shown him this kind of care in what seems like forever. And Song Tingzhou, the boy who just manipulated him into staying, is the one who silently adds two more pieces of meat to his bowl. He doesn't say anything. He just does it. That's the kind of character writing that sticks with you.

This sh*t is unique! If you love a good story that involves our earth.ThenThisIs for you! ?
I followed this author from another book he wrote, I knew it’s gonna be extremely good! The pacing indeed amped up like crazy. (His other work is a bit slow but overall, very enjoyable lacing with mysterious and stuff) The character design is going to be top-notch, especially female leads. Literally filled with heart and soul with their own agenda. Can't say much bout the plot rn, but it's really intriguing and unique, Can't wait for mage x gundam fight scene. It's going to be epic!Sorry for the overgrazing, but he deserves it!
Even the history just had begun; I need to say that this has the potential to be one of the best novels on this site, and I hope that it happens. Also, happy new year, author.
