There's a theme running through these chapters that I can't stop thinking about: disguise as survival, and revelation as risk. Qin Nian arrived at the military compound with her skin darkened by an herbal bath — a deliberate disguise for safety. But the moment she learns Xie Zhengnian is injured, she rushes to the hospital and reveals her true appearance. The disguise served its purpose on the journey, but staying hidden would have cost her something far more valuable: the chance to be seen by her children, by her husband, by the people she's now part of. And look at who else is disguised. Fang Yanli spent years being mocked as "Pockmarked Aunty" but cultivated her compound network anyway. Her information is her armor. Qi Yaoyao wears a mask at the hospital — literally, as a nurse — but her hatred is completely uncovered. The original Qin Nian, whatever her true nature was, seems to have been disguised not by herbs but by cruelty — a woman who would drown children for a lover. The current Qin Nian is performing a different kind of disguise: the good wife, the caring mother, the gracious woman. But Xie Zhengnian's sharp eyes keep catching the seams. The herbal bath itself is a beautiful symbol. It's something natural, something from the earth — and Qin Nian studying the herb garden shows she's already connecting with this new world on her own terms. She didn't just arrive and wait; she learned. She adapted. She chose when to reveal herself. But the deepest symbolism is in the children. Tuantuan and Dou Dou have never known their father. They arrived in a place where their mother was rumored to be a jinx, a tigress, a dark and ugly woman. They are themselves disguised — not by herbs, but by circumstance. And the hospital ward, with its doctors and nurses and whispered rumors, becomes the place where those disguises start to fall away, one by one. "The closer you get to home, the more hesitant you feel." Home isn't just a place. It's the moment you stop disguising yourself and let people see who you really are. And that's terrifying.
"We agreed to cut ties forever, you wretched hag!" — Grandma Mei absolutely lost it when she saw Huang Shi and I loved every second of it. This whole encounter with the Han family is a masterclass in messy human relationships. Let me just say: Huang Shi is one of the most disgusting characters I've ever encountered and I mean that in the best way possible from a writing standpoint. The woman tried to SELL her own daughter. In normal times. Not even during a famine or disaster—just because they wanted the betrothal gift for her younger brother. And now she's showing up at the Mei family's camp, staring at their donkey like it's a walking buffet, pretending they're still in-laws. The scene where Grandma Mei grabs Huang Shi by the collar and yanks her backward? Iconic. The fact that Huang Shi's three sons show up and immediately back away when Mei Erhu and Mei Shitou pull knives? Even better. These are cowards who only show up when it's safe to do so. But the real gut-punch is Han Shi. She admitted she wanted to show off. Just a little. She saw her miserable brothers and mother and couldn't resist flaunting how well she was doing with the Meis. And then her mother literally came crawling back like a starving animal. The guilt on Han Shi's face when Grandma Mei scolds her—it's so real. She's not a perfect person, she's flawed and vain and human, and that's what makes her sympathetic. And Mei Shitou! When Grandma Mei asks him if he acknowledges this maternal grandmother, he just says "I don't." No hesitation. No drama. Just a clean, cold rejection that probably felt incredibly satisfying to read. The most heartbreaking detail? Han Shi's final refuge wasn't her maternal family but her marital family. She ran back to the Meis after her mother tried to sell her, and now she's stuck with them by choice and by circumstance. The severance agreement was supposed to free her, but it just left her with nowhere else to go. Mei Qian watching all this with that knowing look—she's processing everything through the lens of her original self's memories, connecting dots the others can't see. She's the silent observer in every scene and I'm here for it.
Starts off with a interesting premise, but develops into a cliche story, with each chapter feeling like it's a draft skipping detailed story and characterisation if the author followed this story slowing it down and adding more detail allowing the story to flow better i would give it a higher score.
Sorry i did not read the novel fully but after reading it fully my mind just blowed the character development was very nice. Very food story bro not gonna lie

The story is incredibly intriguing, and the world-building is amazing. I really enjoy adventurous stories like this one. It’s a truly great work and definitely worth reading!
Honestly, one of the quicker openings, but it slows down in a very good way. The development is good, the character growth is explained well, the descriptions of characters and the world are done well.
Welcome back! It's so good to see you continuing this story, I’ve genuinely missed the turmoil between Liam and Diane. This chapter was worth the wait! You’ve done a fantastic job capturing Liam's paranoia and meticulous personality. I could feel the tension and unease mounting with every step he took to secure his assets and restrict Diane’s access. The way you portrayed his inner turmoil and constant second-guessing was so compelling, it made me feel like I was right there in the room with him, watching him unravel bit by bit.
I’m completely hooked on this novel! It’s an incredible mix of horror, slice of life, romance, and so much more. Honestly, it’s sensational. The protagonist, Shouichi, has such a unique and quirky personality—it’s hard not to love him, haha. The author does an amazing job of pulling you into the story with every single paragraph.
This story is good , but the author kept the story on hold
Wonderful story. I'm loving it so far. Pls keep updating. Can't wait to see what's next. Also, i want more action parts so pps bring up more
It’s a story about a person who goes on a journey and faces challenges. Along the way, they meet various people who shape their path. The main character learns things, grows, and ultimately, things change by the end. It has themes of struggle, discovery, and resolution. If you like stories where stuff happens and characters develop, you might enjoy it. If not, maybe skip it.
