Each action Lin Wanxing takes is a piece of a larger plan, and the reader slowly realizes what's happening before the characters fully execute it. That's smart storytelling. We know she's preparing to escape before she actually escapes, which means every scene carries double meaning. When she's digging up medicinal herbs, we're not just watching her gather plants—we're watching her gather survival tools. When she's carving marks on a pine tree, we're not just seeing her explore—we're seeing her map an escape route. And then the structure shifts dramatically when she overhears Liu Cuihua's conversation. Everything changes. The pacing accelerates because suddenly the reader understands the full stakes. This isn't just about surviving a famine anymore—this is about escaping people who want to sell her. The midnight escape sequence is where the pacing really shines. 'Quietly, she got up and packed all the supplies she had prepared into an old cloth bundle.' Then she wakes the kids. Then they move through the house. Then she goes back for more supplies. Then she sneaks into Old Madam Lin's room. The tension builds scene by scene, and the author never lets up. The final lines are a masterclass in cliffhanger structure: 'She was just debating whether she should also try to steal the remaining sack of white flour when Old Madam Lin suddenly muttered, 'Who's there? Why aren't you''—and then it cuts off. I literally gasped. The pacing from preparation to execution to near-discovery is perfectly calibrated. Every paragraph raises the stakes, and the author knows exactly when to slow down for emotional moments and when to accelerate for tension. The chapter structure here is basically a heist movie in literary form, and I was completely hooked.

I really love this book, i also like how most of the plot holes which might have been there aren't e.g him not having the ancient swamp frog egg and things of that nature. Also i like how you dont waste chapters covering things that could be covered in terra nova. (I love your books, i've been reading them since strongest guild master)

It’s early so still hard to say, but it’s generally well written. It gives very similar energy to Supreme Magus if you like that novel, though given the title and synopsis, it’s likely to take a much different direction. If you like that novel, it seems likely you’ll like this one

Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
