ThreyaMidnight
Okay so this chapter is wild. Gu Shiyi disappears after her mountain trip, and suddenly the whole village is searching for her. But here's the thing that really got me—the stepmother Cui Shi isn't actually worried about her stepdaughter at all. She's worried about the twenty taels of silver she already took from Steward Liu's family. That's some next-level villain energy right there. The plot twist comes when Cui Shi runs into Liu Yuanwai at his gate and immediately starts crying about how her daughter was taken by wolves. She's manipulating him, and honestly, it's kind of impressive how quickly she pivots from fake grief to... well, whatever she's planning. The author really knows how to build tension here. You're sitting there thinking, what is this woman going to do next? I also loved the contrast between Gu Shiyi's peaceful moment in her space—organizing her bamboo rack, storing her silver and mushrooms—and the chaos happening in the village. It's like two completely different worlds colliding. One is calm and methodical, the other is full of scheming and fake tears. The author sets this up really well. The search party scene was interesting too. The whole village goes out with torches, and they can't find her. This raises the stakes—what happened to Gu Shiyi? Is she actually in danger, or is she just hiding in her space? The mystery is really gripping me. And then there's Liu Yuanwai taking that pill in his study. What kind of pill is that? The author drops this detail and I'm already theorizing. Is it some kind of aphrodisiac? A medicine? Something else entirely? This little detail makes me want to keep reading to find out.
I need to discuss Qin Xiao because this man is a walking contradiction and I am HERE for it. Let me start with the scene where he discovers Qinghe's whip marks. The text says: "Thinking about how she had silently endured all this time, his voice softened unconsciously." UNCONSCIOUSLY. That's the key word. He didn't plan to soften. His body betrayed him. He wanted to be the cold, dominant master but her suffering broke through his defenses before he could stop it. And then he applies medicine to her back. This is such a domestic, intimate moment wrapped in the guise of practicality. He doesn't say anything sweet. He doesn't compliment her. He just says "Turn around" and "I'll apply it for you" and then leaves the room because he can't handle being this close to her wounded body. The self-control is insane. The man is literally fighting his own desires because he refuses to take advantage of someone who's already suffered enough. But here's where it gets interesting—when Qinghe offers to scratch his back, the desire he suppressed "reignited instantly." And his response? "Stop trying to seduce me." BRO. She's scratching your back. That's not seduction. That's kindness. But he's so starved for physical contact that any gentle touch from her sends him into panic mode. He has to leave the room AGAIN. This man cannot win. Now let's talk about the relationship with his mother. The text reveals: "Her eldest son had always tried to please her. The colder she treated him, the more eagerly he sought her approval." OOF. This is generational trauma right here. He spent his entire life trying to earn love from people who only saw him as an ATM. And Qinghe—the girl he bought as a convict slave—is the first person who makes him choose someone ELSE over his family. The moment he says "Who I marry is none of Mother's concern" and threatens to split the household, I felt something shift in his character. This isn't just about Qinghe. This is about him finally breaking a cycle that's controlled him his whole life. Qinghe is the catalyst, but the real transformation is internal. And Qinghe's relationship with him? She's calculating, yes. She knows she has to please him to survive. But there's a moment where she thinks: "Although Qin Xiao looked fierce, his heart was actually soft." And this isn't manipulation. She's genuinely observing him, reading him, and coming to a conclusion that contradicts everything she expected. She bought into the narrative that he's just a brutal master, but she's discovering the truth layer by layer. The most beautiful character moment is when he gives her the pheasants. After everything—the confrontation, the argument, the apology—what does he do? He brings her food. He says "Stew them and nourish yourself." He's caring for her body because he saw her injuries and he couldn't sleep knowing she was still weak. This man shows love through acts of service, not words. And Qinghe, who has never experienced genuine care, doesn't even know how to process it. Their dynamic is shifting from master-slave to something else entirely, and neither of them has the vocabulary to name it yet. Every glance, every touch, every silence between them is charged with unspoken meaning. I'm emotionally compromised.
I love the way the author is having fun writing thisyou can really feel itgood job with the word count too ? an interesting novel ??
Dead Gods will go on a short hiatus, and the chapters will return on the 24th.
This is a story worth reading! Action packed with mystery all around and untold power to be harnessed. this is one to look out for. Great job so far!
Having followed and read this book as it’s been released, and having read to the current highest chapter (55), I’m ready to review! I haven’t seen any grammar errors, and the author has a very clear writing style! The author developed and presents their world very well, and many of the characters have distinct personalities. Emotions and internal conflicts are written wonderfully! Despite the slow burn aspect of the book, I have not felt any major downtime or boredom whenever I read this story, and it always feels like things are building up to something major or significant to the story.
This story is good and interesting .I love it. Thanks to the author and also to the translator who meticulously created this wonderful story.
From what I’ve seen thus far, this is great. The story is different from the usual I have read. I absolutely enjoyed the world-building and descriptions.Hoping this isn’t dropped. Keep working hard author. There are so many questions, yet not enough answers. Only by reading will I find them, anyways, this is an absolute read. Will definitely be a stable reader.
It is 5 star. Why because it is written quite well for a 1st book. The story is not rushed as you can visual the events written on it. Kodus Author Sama. Add it to library.
first of all there are too many problems in this novel I'm gonna elaborate on these one by one:1. this novel will make more sense in mc is not a reincarnated person but a normal person with a system. for example he doesn't use his future knowledge at all, all the calculations are done by the system to find the best company to invest in and mc just invest in and same will all the advance formula the system sell mc just buy from it. so i don't know why mc have to be an reincarnated person.2.in starting chapter it becomes a slow burn slice of life story (quite a few chapters dedicated to mc solving maths and physics formula that are just there as fillers) but when it comes to recruiting employees for his "Empire(which doesn't even establish yet)" he goes to the person in his hoodie and asks him to work for him, and as to why cause he will build a "empire(again)" which will matter in this world and the person agreed like seriously.3. The most important point- he was a 35 year old middle age working man that regressed to 2008 which makes him a 18 year old now you will think he is a 18 year old with the mental age of 35 years old but no, his mental age is of 18 year old, he doesn't have the emotional maturity of a 35 years old men.4. many people have noticed this and already commented: "beta simp mc" Yes mc is a simp let me explain- i) a 35 year mentally old man going after a 18 year old girl who he knows that she is a selfish girl who is only with him so that he could help her in study and assignment. and after knowing all this he still hopes that she will not abandon him, like seriously dude why don't you go and just beg her then she might just stay. I don't see any emotional maturity that comes with age and taking responsibility, that's why i suggested that this novel will do much better if mc is not a reincarnated person.p.s: To the author, i am sorry for my harsh words and criticism and i understand that you are a new author and still learning and you will surely become a great author. it's your novel and i have no right to criticize it but it's just my views on your novel which i think may help you in understanding the others prospective so that you can better refine your work. I'm also from india and it's rare to see an Indian writer and i just wanted to support you. my words may sound harsh, but my intention is just to help you. I hope you will not take it the wrong way. wishing you all the best for your future endeavours.
