Okay so let me just say—Pei Yanqiu is absolutely the most entertaining male lead I have ever encountered. Like, on the surface he's this cold, abstinent idol type, right? But the second Shen Xingyao kisses him in the snow, the mask completely cracks. The way his internal monologue goes from "what is happening" to "I must study kissing techniques" is both hilarious and kind of heartbreaking at the same time. What really got me is how much he's carrying internally. The lawsuit with the club, his mother's unstable condition, the fact that he's basically living in a freezing rundown apartment—and yet he's still crouching down in the snow to give her a piggyback ride because her boots are lambskin and he doesn't want them to get muddy. That detail! He noticed her shoes and immediately thought about protecting them. This man is deeply devoted and he doesn't even realize how obvious it is. And Shen Xingyao—she's transmigration-adjacent, clearly reading the situation like a novel, but here's the thing: she's actually trying. She's wrestling with her conscience about making him sleep on the broken sofa. She feels guilty about what the original host did to him. That's not a shallow protagonist. She's actively trying to be better, to nurture this relationship instead of exploiting it. The "golden goose husband" framing is funny but underneath it there's genuine care. Their dynamic shifted SO much in these chapters. She went from aggressively initiating to being completely flustered, and he went from passive recipient to taking full control. The power balance is constantly flipping and it keeps the relationship feeling alive. I also love that when she casually says his skills aren't as good as "someone else's," his entire mood darkens and he starts stewing. Jealousy as a character trait! Yes please. But the most telling moment for me was when he washes her clothes by hand. His internal weeping about his "once-proud hand speed" being devoted to scrubbing her intimate garments—this is a man who would literally do anything for her and he's fully aware of it. The relationship has this beautiful asymmetry where both of them are deeply invested but express it in completely different ways. He's the doer, she's the overthinker. Together they're chaos.
I need to talk about Grandma Yao because this woman is genuinely one of the best characters in the book. On the surface she's stern, harsh, barely tolerates Yao Qingqing sleeping on her kang, but the subtext is everything. She asks "Where did you go?" and immediately guesses the truth about the scoundrel — she's lived sixty years, she knows exactly what kind of trouble Yao Qingqing has been involved with. But she doesn't kick her out. She warns her and lets her stay. And then the clothes scene! Grandma Yao digs through a chest and finds her second aunt's old clothes, gives them to Yao Qingqing. That's not nothing. In this era, sharing clothes between households is intimate, it's trust. When Yao Qingqing says "when you are old, I will take care of you," and Grandma Yao deflects with "I have sons" — that's a grandmother protecting her heart while pretending not to care. Then there's Tian Huaihua, pregnant herself, bringing cabbage rolls. The way she says "If we do not bring you some good food, we cannot swallow it ourselves" — that line broke me a little. It's about community, about women looking out for each other in a time when survival is everything. And Shen Xiaomei? The girl who altered her report cards, who thinks she can marry Shen Shupei as a backup plan? She's not evil, she's just desperate and pathetic, and Yao Qingqing sees right through her. The dynamic between them is delicious — Xiaomei thinks she's the victim but she's been played every step of the way.
I need to talk about how this story opens because the pacing is absolutely deceptive. Chapter 1 starts as a comedy— Eighteenth Lady's two failed attempts at ritual solicitation are genuinely funny. The brother who was actually a dog. The sister who faked her death. These are setup jokes that make you laugh, and they establish Eighteenth Lady as a lovable loser ghost who keeps messing up. Then she goes to Su Yingtang, gets the four-word method, and the story shifts. The tone gets slightly more serious as she targets Xu Jichun. We learn about his background, his diligence, his grief. The chapter ends with her manifesting in his room and saying the famous line: "Hello son, I'm your mother!" Chapter 2 opens with the aftermath of that line. Xu Jichun asks "who is my father?" and the comedy continues—but now there's weight behind it. He faints. She panics because if a ghost kills a human, it can't enter Samsara. This is the first real moment of stakes in the story. What was previously a lighthearted con becomes potentially lethal. The transition from comedy to genuine tension happens so smoothly that I didn't even notice it until I was already worried about whether Xu Jichun would survive. That's skilled pacing. The author lets you get comfortable with the humor, then pulls the rug out. And the chapter ends with Xu Jichun half-convinced, half-doubting, asking why she hasn't reincarnated—another question that adds emotional depth to what could have been a simple farce.
Only readed 3 chapters its already captivating... ? the story feels very natural.. Good work ?
It's really good and different from other martial arts novels. I like MC style and mindset. He is so cool and his fighting style is unique. If this novel continues, I think it will be one of the best novel in web novel. we should support this novel.
Read upto ch 39.The good thing about the novel is that the writer is very passionate about the novel. The way he built or designed each character and the plot had the promise of a great novel.Unfortunately, he has failed to deliver consistency of the characters in my opinion. The novel fails to paint a clear picture of the MC and his friends. Sometimes it seems like everything is under their control, in the next chapters some nobody manages to disrupt their plans. There are many plotholes and undeveloped plots, like the circle which is mentioned in the first chapter. Maybe the author would develop them in the following chapters, but my main problem is with these inconsistencies that breaks the immersion for me.
As the author, this is shameless, but depending on how many ideas for this novel I personally execute, this review may change
First time writing a book. Thank you for reading it!
okay, this is my actual review after reading all free chapters, first- there is no ai, i take it back, 2- its slow asf, 3- it feels very cliche, overall , just turn off your brain and enjoy this
Added.Hope to see some wholesomeness like we used from you. And, wlc back?
A beautiful story of how fate connects two lost souls. I love the beginning and can't wait for the rest ? Knowing the characters from One Wild Night book I'm amazed at how much they changed and curious about what caused it both for the protagonists and antagonists. How can one live with so much malice? Once brave and daring, now shy and quiet. Will she gain the courage to step up? ... I guess we'll see... [rubs hands with a chuckle] ☺️
I started reading this today, and I must admit that this is gonna make me hook and excited the same way with OWN and Unexpected Romance. You are just so brilliant and an amazing author Miss_B and I cannot wait for this book to progress. I already love it. Again thank you so much for sharing your talent with us.??????
