Okay so I need to talk about this pear soup thing because honestly I did NOT see that coming and now I can't unsee it. Let me back up though because the plot here is doing some really clever stuff. Pei Xu spends the whole night trying to be the proper husband, sleeping on a bamboo couch, reciting sutras, the whole gentleman routine. And then the next morning he's having this dream—this intense, almost romantic dream with Sang Wu in that temple scene—and he wakes up completely wrecked. The author sets this up so carefully, right? You're reading along thinking, okay, he's just a disciplined guy struggling with basic human instincts, totally normal marital tension stuff. Then BOOM. He figures it out at the breakfast table. "Last night's pear drink, did you prepare it?" And the reader is like... wait. Wait wait wait. Peganum harmala seeds. Aphrodisiac effects. Sang Wu KNEW. She planned this. And the way the author reveals it—Pei Xu sitting there connecting the dots himself, remembering the Third Uncle's household being knowledgeable about medicinal cuisine, putting it all together—that's not just a plot twist, that's a whole character moment. Sang Wu isn't some innocent girl who accidentally made her husband a cup of soup. She's calculating, yes, but also vulnerable because now Pei Xu is looking at her differently. The plot here is doing double duty: it's advancing the romantic tension AND it's establishing that these two are playing different games. She's playing the long con for Chang'an, he's playing by a completely different moral code. And now those two worlds are colliding at a breakfast table. I love it.
this is one of the most poorly written books I've ever seen in my life
this has potential, now we just have to wait for the timeskip.
I read the novel for the first time, but it didn’t feel like it….The story was very easy to understand and imagine... I really liked the main character, especially his fighting style, which I enjoyed the most.

the pacing is alright, character development is superb. I love the world building. .
I like the main character's abilities, the story is going smoothly at the moment, the monster designs are nice and the author has prepared a wiki for the story.
The first few chapters are intense, the tension is ??. adding to library ASAP. can't wait to read more chapters ❤️
