I keep coming back to one detail and I can't shake it: the experimental fields used to be a graveyard. This isn't just atmospheric flavor text. It's loaded with meaning on at least three levels. First, there's the literal level—Jiang Luokui is purifying contaminated soil, and the contamination happened to be on ground that was once a burial site. She's essentially cleaning death out of the earth so life can grow. The radiation is just the sci-fi packaging for what is really a cleansing ritual. Then there's the ghost story that spreads among the combat students. They see a shadow, a female figure that disappears, and immediately jump to supernatural explanations. But it's just Jiang Luokui wearing an invisibility spell, exhausted and covered in her own impurities. The real ghost is the reputation they've built around her—the D-rank fraud, the fake genius, the negative figure everyone talks about. She's more haunted by rumors than any graveyard spirit ever was. And the third layer is the most personal. Jiang Luokui herself is like a ghost in this story—present but invisible, working tirelessly but unrecognized, purifying everything around her while her own meridians stay blocked. She expels turbid sweat, literally pushing impurities out of her body, and the smell is so bad her roommates think she was bullied. But she's not being bullied. She's being transformed. The graveyard setting mirrors her own position: everyone assumes the worst about what's growing there, but she's the one actually doing the work of making something live. "Botany is a foundational subject. Easy to learn, hard to master. But mastering it can improve your survival rate outside the base." Professor Qian says this like it's the most obvious thing in the world. But it's not just about plants. It's about seeing what's actually there instead of what everyone tells you to see. That's the whole book, isn't it?
