ThunderXTEH
The stakes in these chapters are layered like an onion and every layer makes me more anxious. On the surface, there's a murder investigation—Physician Xun is dead and Ji Changqing suspects foul play. But the real tension comes from knowing that Feng Qingsui is hiding something and Ji Changqing knows she's hiding something, and neither of them is saying it outright. The scene where he tests her with the fake story about the dog bite is pure suspense. We're watching her face, waiting for a crack in her composure, and the author makes us wait just long enough. Then there's the Fanlou subplot—Qiao Zhenzhen is terrified that Ji Changqing is setting a trap to confiscate their establishment. Madam Fan's theory about the national treasury being short on funds adds political stakes to the personal danger. And Ji Peiyuan! This guy poisoned his own nephew's treatment and now he's sneaking off to meet Jin Shi. His 'malicious intentions had yielded good results' line should be a red flag to every reader. Something is going to blow up in his face. The internal conflicts are just as intense—Feng Qingsui wants to find out who sent the floral-scented ink to Fanlou, but she's also trying to stay alive in a city full of people who want her dead. Every conversation is a potential trap. Every gift could be poison. And Ji Changqing? He's the most dangerous person in the room because he's the only one who sees the whole board. The chapter ends with Qiao Zhenzhen writing a reply with tears in her eyes, and I just know this is leading somewhere terrible.
Okay so let me just say—this opening chapter is a masterclass in how to hook a reader without explaining anything. You drop us right into the chaos. Jolene wakes up with a splitting headache, surrounded by empty liquor bottles, and before she can even process what's happening, CPS is banging on the door. No preamble, no exposition dump, just pure momentum. The plot twist here isn't some big reveal—it's the transmigration itself, and honestly, the author handles it brilliantly by not wasting a single paragraph on it. We don't get a long internal monologue about how she died or what system brought her here. Nope. She just wakes up, the memories flood in, and she immediately starts making decisions. That's it. That's the hook. What I loved most was the escape sequence. The landlady goes downstairs to deal with CPS, and in that exact second, Jolene grabs Emma and bolts. Not a moment of hesitation. The fire escape scene—rusty iron door creaking, the alley reeking of garbage, Jolene's hangover making her vision swim—this is where the plot really grabbed me. Every detail served the urgency. And then the restroom scene? Genius. They lock the door, wait for people to leave, and Jolene washes herself and Emma with hand soap. It's pathetic and tender at the same time, and it makes the stakes feel real. The church scene is where the plot pivots from survival to something else entirely. Jolene realizes she can use her situation—penniless mother with a child—to get help from the church. It's clever, almost manipulative, but in a way that makes you root for her. And that ending where she says she used to work as a live-in nanny for three years... cut off mid-sentence. I need to know what happens next. One thing I'm curious about: who reported them? The text mentions it but never explains. Is it the landlady? A neighbor? This feels like a plot thread that will come back to bite them, and I'm here for it.
I'm going to be honest with you — I read the dialogue in this book out loud. Like, actually said it. Because the subtext is SO thick you could cut it with a knife and it still wouldn't slice through. Take this exchange: "Your Ladyship is naturally beautiful. Even without makeup, you are stunningly gorgeous." Yun Qin knew she couldn't just flatter her endlessly. With a hint of unease, she continued, "The Emperor is coming late at night and is likely tired. The more homely and natural Your Ladyship appears, the better." On the surface, this is a maid giving advice to her mistress. But read it again. Yun Qin is essentially coaching Concubine Hui on how to perform weakness. She's directing the entire scene. And Concubine Hui — who is supposedly the powerful one here — just accepts it. "You are right." Two words. No pushback. That's not submission; that's calculation. She recognizes a useful mind when she sees one. And then there's Xu An calling her "Miss Yun Qin." That title shift is MASSIVE. In a palace where every word has hierarchy baked in, the chief eunuch suddenly elevating her status with a single address is either a test or a warning. Probably both. The author's narrative voice is equally sharp — it stays close to Yun Qin's perspective but never fully commits to her thoughts. We get her observations, her fears, her calculations, but there's always this thin layer of narration that reminds us she's being watched. The voice itself feels like the palace: always performing, never quite revealing everything.

So far it's going really well. Let's hope the author doesn't destroy it with unnecessary romance or turning the mc into a simp
hello am the writer of the novel please hope you like it.
wow it's very nice and interesting keep up the good work
Now this is a very unique and interesting story! Author has explained things in such an intricate way that I could feel the world as I read, not in a boring way but in a concise way that keeps me engaged. The pacing is very good. How the author times the events make it seem natural (in a fantasy way of course) and authentic, and I love that! Speaking of which, the characters feel real! Cedric, or the MC's actions make sense, and the dialogue feels natural as well.World-building is also expansive, and it gets even better as the plot progresses! This novel has tons of potential, like I mean TONS of potential. I see what you're cooking here, and I know I'm tasting some gourmet here. Keep up the work! Can't wait to see more!
