Can we just take a moment to appreciate how well-written the dialogue is in this opening? Every character has a distinct voice, and the author doesn't waste words. Shen Qian's lines are particularly effective at establishing him as someone who deserves every bit of humiliation he's about to receive. "Who is your husband? Did you not receive the Xiushu I sent you yesterday?" That cold, dismissive tone—like she's an inconvenience he's trying to shake off. And then when she calls him out on never entering her room, his response is "You woman from the countryside truly have no idea what upbringing means. As a woman, how dare you speak of the marriage bed in public? Have you no shame?" Classic gaslighting. He's the one who refused to consummate the marriage for three years, but suddenly SHE's the one lacking propriety for mentioning it. Meng Shuhe's dialogue is where it really shines though. She's sharp, precise, and unflinching. "You can divorce your wife without cause and marry another—is that what upbringing looks like?" That line is a mic drop. She turns his own value system against him. And when she lays out the Qichu and Sanbuchu legal arguments, it's not just smart—it's the kind of dialogue that makes you want to cheer. Lu Xiu's voice as an unborn child is handled well too. There's this constant tension between his milky, childish tone and the weight of what he's saying. "Mother, I really am your son" repeated twice at the beginning creates this almost nursery-rhyme quality that makes the absurd premise feel more believable. And his outburst about Shen Qian—"That blind, damnable thing!"—shows he's not just a plot device, he has personality. The gossiping crowd dialogue is another highlight. It's natural, overlapping, and reveals exactly the information the reader needs without feeling forced.
Let's talk about that opening scene because the author really knows how to set a mood before everything goes sideways. Yan Qing picking up the obsidian-like stone during a picnic—this is such a normal, almost boring moment. She's washing vegetables by a stream, complaining about the work, and finds a pretty rock. The description is deceptively simple: 'it seemed to contain a flowing color within. It flashed for a moment.' That's it. Three sentences and the entire story changes. No dramatic thunder, no glowing portal, just a stone that catches the sunlight and then... nothing. She puts it in her pocket and goes back to eating. Then the nosebleed. The blood dripping onto the coffee table right beside where the stone was sitting. 'A few drops vanished in an instant.' The stone grows smaller and smaller until it disappears completely, and Yan Qing is too tired to even process it. She just thinks 'the stone seems brighter' and goes to sleep. That's masterful worldbuilding right there. The magic system reveals itself through mundane moments—a bath, a nosebleed, a tired evening. The space she discovers isn't some grand celestial gift; it appears while she's half-asleep on the sofa, and her first thought isn't 'I am chosen' but 'Oh no, a nosebleed again.' The contrast between the supernatural and the everyday is what makes this world feel real.
The story has potential but the “fighting scenes” isn’t great as it should be more formatted and descriptive at least and the grammar needs improvement.
Well Writing a review for your own book is not a good idea so they say? But whatever, so I’ll just say a few things. Also, if you have any questions about the novel, you can leave them in the comments! I truly don’t mind answering.“First of all, what is this book about?”It’s about a young hunter named Sakamoto, who unknowingly carries the legacy of the First Men—a forgotten lineage of the strongest warriors to ever exist. As the world is thrown into chaos by a secret war between powerful factions, Sakamoto must uncover the truth about his origins, harness the terrifying force within him, and survive against those who seek to control or destroy him.“What type of guy is Sakamoto?”Familiar name lol i know but,He’s a reluctant warrior burdened by fate. Once an ordinary young man, he’s thrown into a world of monsters, hunters, and gods, where he has no choice but to adapt. He’s loyal, determined, and dangerously unpredictable—especially with the forbidden entity inside him.“God-like Strength?”Not exactly. Sakamoto is strong, but his power comes at a price. Every ability he gains brings him closer to losing himself. He has to struggle, train, and master his own limits—because in this world, even the strongest can fall. Romance?”Not exactly, I’m sorry but if I have a change of mind there will be but it will be a slow burn. With the weight of destiny on his shoulders, Sakamoto doesn’t have time for love… but sometimes, emotions can’t be ignored.Chapter updating?Right now, I’m focused on crafting each chapter carefully. Updates will be consistent as the story unfolds, and major arcs will be planned ahead to keep the pacing strong, But that depends on a lot of things though. And, finally…Why do u review this book? Some would wonder if this book will be worth it and my answer for you is Yes, As an Author I always learn and adapt that’s one thing I want you to know. So I know And think this book is going to be good. I believe in my story. If you love a mix of intense battles, deep lore, and strong character development, plots, then The First Men Chronicles is something you won’t want to miss!I won’t say too much. Join the train and trust the process.
