The flawed translations didn't completely ruin the story, but it seemed odd for someone who claimed to miss his past life. Upon returning, he treated each of his former "friends" as an annoyance, despite expressing such longing earlier. It wasn't the translators' fault; the author's portrayal made the main character unlikable to me. "I missed them so much. Are you suggesting we hang out? Ugh, alright then."
