Author's Note: I'm entering this into "Weekly Love Tales: Creature of Dark," and some readers might be confused about how it fits the theme or how this is even a romance story. But persevere, and you shall find out. ;) Unfortunately, I'm going against the recommendation of introducing the contest theme early, as how everything fits together slowly as the story progresses is a key part of the plot, so slow progress is a necessity.
