This is one of the most extraordinary novels I've come across—it evoked a range of emotions within me, making me shed tears, laugh, feel captivated, astonished, and deeply empathize with the characters. The plot is captivating, featuring well-developed, multi-dimensional characters that evoke love and sometimes animosity, delving into intricate relationships and emotions. The relationship between the protagonist, Shi Jin, and his five older siblings is masterfully portrayed, showcasing a depth and understanding rarely seen in literature. The bond between Shi Jin and the main love interest, ML, is healthy and loving, representing a mature partnership built on trust and mutual support.
The story revolves around Shi Jin, who, after transmigration, finds himself in the body of the youngest sibling of a family of accomplished half-brothers who harbor resentment towards him. Initially mistreated due to their father's favoritism, the plot alternates between intense action scenes involving the criminal underworld, led by the ML, and the introspective journey of Shi Jin attempting to mend his relationships with his brothers.
What I adore about these relationships:
1. Shi Jin and Lian Jun's connection is exceptional. The way they care for each other, with the MC gently nudging the ML to prioritize his health, creates a genuine, equal partnership. Lian Jun's unwavering support and belief in Shi Jin's growth are integral to the story, as their bond serves as a foundation for healing the fractured relationships with the brothers.
2. Forgiving his brothers is a challenging task for Shi Jin, initially assuming their hostility stems from misunderstanding. However, the revelation that their earlier kindness was manipulative changes everything. Despite the hardships, the MC gradually learns to trust and forgive them, providing a heartwarming narrative arc.
Characters that leave a lasting impression:
- Shi Jin, a 27-year-old cop reincarnated as a 17-year-old, undergoes a transformation from vulnerable to resourceful. His kindness and love for mahjong bring warmth and humanity to those around him, including the ML and his brothers.
- Lian Jun, a complex CEO, starts off as aloof but evolves into a caring and selfless leader, always striving to balance power dynamics with his affection for Shi Jin.
- Xiao Si, the emotionally invested System, forms a touching bond with the MC and ML, adding an unexpected emotional depth to the story.
- The Guas, Lian Jun's loyal subordinates, each with unique personalities, become integral to the MC's life, forming a second family.
The brothers, each excelling in their fields, face redemption and personal growth:
- Shi Weichong, the eldest, starts as the most manipulative but ultimately tries to make amends.
- Fei Yujing, a calculating lawyer, explores his sociopathic tendencies.
- Rong Zhouzhong, a charming actor with a tsundere personality, adds humor and conflict.
- Xiang Aoting, a compassionate Air Force officer, serves as a moral compass.
- Lu Jiuzheng, a genius doctor with mental health issues, brings complexity and vulnerability.
Thoughts on the ending:
While the novel concludes on a happy note with a focus on finding a "home," there are a few areas where the ending could have been more satisfying. The brothers' lingering guilt over the original timeline and their dreams of the past could have been addressed more explicitly. Additionally, the return of the System, Xiao Si, as a young child adopted by the MC and ML, felt somewhat incongruous given its previous role and knowledge, creating a minor disconnect for me.
Despite these minor reservations, I eagerly anticipate revisiting the story with a clearer understanding of the twists and character developments. I wholeheartedly recommend this novel to anyone seeking a compelling, emotionally rich, and well-crafted tale.
