A communal project to dig a well in the new village. Cost estimated at eleven to twelve taels with wooden walls. Each family pays about a thousand coins. Workers are provided two meals a day. The well is intended to protect against droughts, though Li Jinhua notes shallow wells dried up in past severe droughts.
