The arrangement by which Gu Yan married Yun Xiangye three years ago in Jiangnan. It was not a proper matchmaking or betrothal in Chang'an terms. The maids speculate that this marriage was merely temporary and that Gu Yan would eventually divorce Yun Xiangye to marry a noblewoman.
