The monetary system used in the story. Xie Yushu carried fourteen guan, three qian, and two wen. Prices are given in wen (copper coins) and qian (silver). One qian equals one hundred wen based on her payment of one qian silver plus seventeen wen copper coins for her toiletries purchase.
