Jia Xu used it as a substitute for gunpowder, creating a chemical combustion explosion (likely quicklime-water reaction or dust explosion) that blasted a dilapidated house into pieces. The explosion was deafening and left a shallow pit beneath it. Jia Xu showed it to Dian Wei to create a misunderstanding that such weapons were easy to make.
