He attempted to swindle three million taels of silver from Chongzhen under the pretense of expanding border troops in Liaodong. He was exposed by Chongzhen for embezzling military funds, including 200,000 taels that went to his disciple Wang Jingming's private accounts. He was dismissed, investigated, and thrown into Zhaoyu prison.
