The father of the sickly Wen Qinghe. He was sent abroad to study by his own father (the original Wen Qinghe's grandfather) after all family wealth was left following political changes. He lived up to expectations, returning as a university professor and teaching everything he had learned. Because of his daughter's condition, he spent nearly all his time and energy on her when not working.
