Also referred to as Old Madam Liao, she is Chen Zhiwei's grandmother from the Old Chen family, described as a notoriously biased old woman. She cursed Chen Zhiwei as a heartless, ungrateful wretch and an ominous jinx when she learned about the school excluding Old Chen family children. She threatened to hang herself at Chen Zhiwei's doorstep if not allowed to send her grandson Jinbao to school. Chen Zhiwei slapped her, knocking her to the ground with a mouthful of blood-tinged saliva. She later complained tearfully to her cousin Chen Jinxi about Chen Zhiwei being disobedient and unfilial.
