She showed disgust when her youngest daughter-in-law gave birth to another girl, only paid the midwife two copper coins instead of eight, and ordered the crucian carp soup to be divided only among the boys, denying the newborn girl any. She is cold, calculating, and represents the patriarchal values of the village.
