Liú Xiǎomǎn's mother, a gentle and timid woman who has been longing for her husband Liú Shítou who went to the army three years ago and never returned. She is weak-willed and initially wants to beg her mother-in-law for help, but is intimidated by her daughter's newfound strength and determination. She deeply loves her children and shares the meager food with them.
